Auspost Mastercard Gift Card - Can't Use Online?

Update - The best option I found was to spend it on auspost website, it worked and I bought some gift cards e.g Amazon

I was recently given Auspost Mastercard Gift Cards, once activated I can rarely login but when I do my balance is there.

The only issue is it doesn't work anywhere online despite them advertising it does! there is a whole thread on Product Review where the rep says "due to security changes with Mastercard that it may not work online"

Has anyone had experience with this and been able to use it online or even in store? I currently have $1000 in gift cards that are of no use to me (shopping online anyway)

You buy woolworths gift cards with it and spend in woolies
    It's the only place

  • just use the things in store somewhere

note to self: never buy an australia post mastercard

    • Yeah I thanked the person that bought me it and sent them that link

  • It is true. Auspost Mastercard limitations are written on the fine print behind the card itself. You must always read all the fine print thoroughly before buying this product because many people feel that they can use it everywhere MasterCard is but that is not the case. It is a shit product, never every buy it.

    • Why reading this reminding me of Ned Flanders?

  • Have you tried adding it to your Paypal account, as another "credit/debit" card ? If you can, then you can pay using Paypal, and then select the gift card as the payment method.

I haven't used the Auspost one, but I use the Coles Mastercard giftcard a lot.

With the Coles one, it's a bit hit-and-miss regarding who will accept it, (for example Amazon won't accept it). The issue is that it is detected as a gift card, and not a regular Mastercard, and Jeff Bezos just doesn't like people paying with it, for some reason.

But because I can use it with Paypal (for spending at Liquorland, eBay etc) and also at the Suncorp gift card portal (where I can buy Amazon gift cards), I rarely face any actual problems with spending online using the gift card.

    • Yeah not on PayPal either. I'll just have to try using it via swipe and pin

  • Just an update, the best option I found was to spend it on auspost website, it worked and I bought some gift cards e.g Amazon and bought their postcode register that I needed for my enrolment form apps

Ebay also accepts it when choosing paying by card. So that opens up a few more doors to spend
