Backlit keyboard

I am looking for a backlit keyboard. I game a bit. Not sure I want an LCD screen or not

The 3 logitech options appear to be:

K800 – $95

The problem with this is its wireless with 10 day battery life – I guess you can just leave it plugged in….

G19 – $145

Seems to have all the bells and whistles – the big brother to the G510 – a touch expensive…

G510 – $75

I am leaning towards this – they say it has a 500 Hz (two millisecond) report rate – they dont report what the speed of the g19 is so I don't know if this is faster or equivalent. Price is right.

It looks like the G510 has been as low as $65 delivered in the past Logitechshop sales…

I've also heard the Microsoft Sidewinder X4 and X6 are ok?

Comments

  • sidewinder is good if you like the detachable number pad. however my friend has one, and a couple of the keys are really unresponsive and/or stick a lot. in particular b,n and m. might just be that one though, but thought i'd put it out there

  • i just bought the Verbatim Tuneboard yesterday from HN for $24, normally $90

blue backlit, inbuilt speakers and bass boost :D

    • I heard about that. A friend told me they were selling it at HN Martin Place - so maybe it's more of a widespread sale.

  • I've got the G19 and I find the colour LCD is nice to look at, but functionally irrelevant in majority of games. Use it mostly for the clock (so I know how many hours ago I should have gone to bed) and for the media player control applet.

Stick with the G510 I reckon

    • Thanks RandomNinja,

I suspect a clock will be the main use I have for any LCD screen, so the G510 should be sufficient for that.

Clock would be handy as you can't see the time when in BF3 :)

  • This thread on Whirlpool has me wondering if I should be thinking about getting a mechanical keyboard?

  • Darn. The Tuneboard is not listed online at HN site, and neither store in my area has it in stock. They said the cost price is $69. I really hate my black keyboard - I can't see it at night without the room light on.

    • I had a look at the Tuneboard in HN Martin Place - it is LARGE

Also I already have external speakers, Z523's, so I've decided to pass on the Tuneboard…

      • Im using the Steelseries 6GV2, best investment ever!

        • I was considering the 6G and 7G (PS/2 goodness) but they fell out of favour as they are not backlit, the OP was after something backlit as well.

  • Go mechanical!

I have a Ducky Shine and it is amazing, check out pccasegear if you want to see a decent range (not always to buy as they are not cheap).

My wife (non gamer) loves it and wants one for work… typing on it is a dream.

  • I can't speak for mechanical keyboards, but I have the K800 and Logitech Illuminated Keyboard, and I quite like both. The K800 wins out for me, because the wireless is very convenient, and the keys are quite comfortable. It may not be preferable for gaming, though I find it to be just fine. You can just charge the keyboard whilst using it, so it's a non-issue.

IMO, if you're going to look for a more gaming oriented keyboard (Logitech-wise, at least) you should look into the G110. I think LCD screens are a waste of money, and the G110 is pretty much exactly the same as the G510, bar the screen and the price.

    /my $0.02
