It was addressed to me using my OzB forum name, which has not been used elsewhere - ever.

        • To the anonymous neggers (3 as I type) - there may be an obvious sin in this post but I can't see it - how about you state the reason for the neg so we ALL know what is wrong with OdZ's reference to mandatory (which I hate) cookies as being a problem here?…….and, yes, OdZ is also In error for just pasting without explanation but IMHO 2 wrongs etc etc

@havebeerbelywillsumo: It's your misunderstanding about what cookies do.

            • @deme: Thanks for replying but tells me nothing about this matter

Go for a walk outside and then take a look at what I wrote.

Let me try spell it out for you:

                The topic is:

                OzB site DB compromised?

You replied with a wall of text about cookies.

                You are wrong.

3 people including me negged you for being wrong.

                You asked why.
I've now pointed out that you misunderstand cookies.

You thanked me for replying but think I didn't answer your question.

Cookies can be used to give state to the inherently stateless http protocol.

                They contain data.

This data can be used to keep you logged in or track you amount other things.

If Scotty wanted to give away our emails to shady spammers he would just give it to them.

Cookies have no relevance to this topic

To sum up you are wrong.

You got negged for being wrong.

I don't know how clearer I can tell you this.

                • -1

@deme: Thanks for the clarification, wondered if that was your meaning - by the way, the initial "wall of text" post wasn't from me.

  • the HTML body of email states:

    " Hi Macamaca…. "

    • Just to check your email isn't MacamacXXXXX..@gmail is it?

Where xxxx is numbers or just macamac a.t Gmail?

Often spammers will just out the username as the name if they don't have it.

      • No.
As originally stated, Macamaca is unique to OzB site.

        • I am genuinely stumped.

I've got three hypothesis in order of likelihood:
          * You used the alias once a long time ago and forgot/gave it to someone here
          * Macamaca is the name or something on the public portion of your google profile
          * You've been a member of OzB since 2009 so anytime since then either a database got popped, fell off a truck, sold etc.
          * Some other interception happened along the way of your emails and that's how they found out.
