Adjustable Dumbbells - Best Options?

Hi all,

Looking to purchase a set of adjustable dumbbells, ones that either use a dial or some other adjustable option that isn't about manually changing plates. I have a set of of weights but the individual plates are taking up a ton of space, and are just difficult to store away in general. I'm interested in longevity, quality and ease of use but also not really wanting to pay more than $500-600 if I can help it.

Anyone have any experiences with good quality adjustable dumbbells they can share with me? Good brands and decent quality etc? The prices are so variable, but every picture of adjustable looks so similar (especially something like CORETEX compared to POWERTAIN) and I'm struggling to find particular brand reviews

Thanks for the help, really appreciate it!

I have the $249 set and it’s more than suitable for my warm up sets.

I must warn you, these are NOT suitable for dropping even from a small height and ALWAYS check they are stable and locked in prior to doing any overhead or above body exercise :)

IMO no real worth tier upgrade until the $1000 ish iron master dumbbell from Sam’s fitness

    • Ah damn, these do look good. The issue that the only state that Kogan don't aren't delivering their dumbbells to is WA (or the NT, probably to exxy for freight I guess). Thanks though, I appreciate it.

Did they have a freight estimate at least or is it flat out no shipping? I was really impressed at free delivery the package was literally 2 x 24kg.. that can’t be cheap to send even in metro locations.

        • Just flat-out no shipping to WA or NT for any of their adjustable dumbbells.as far as I can tell. Understandable in some ways, as annoying as it is.

I've tried to order a few pieces of furniture from a couple of pretty luxe retailers over East and often the shipping is just as, if not more, expensive that the item itself. Freight costs must be through the roof atm, hopefully the carrier costs come down as the covid prices chill (or something).

    • My only concern with these and the similar "powertrain" on various websites is this warning "Please Note: These dumbbells are not suitable for performing overhead exercises, for example dumbbell military press, standing triceps extensions etc."

That was my original concern too. I reallyyyyy baby my set of adjustables (put them down super gently and don’t hit them together at peak of contraction) and I think they’ll be fine.

It the bit comes loose you will definitely hurt yourself though.

        • Yeah agreed - doesn't seem to be much else easily available though.

I have powerblocks, they have been good. Lots of weight and easy to change between between graduations.

The negative with their design is that they can impinge on your wrist if your wrist tilts to much. Buy solid overall.

    • I really like the look of the powerblocks, they pretty much sit at the top, or close to, of most reviewers recommendations. Like a few above have said, I'm concerned about longevity, so it might be the way to go considering they don't have much plastic or rubber that could breakdown or crack etc. They've been sold out for ages it feels like, the AU website hasn't restocked in months, they seem very popular.
