Legit Deal on Dell M17x?

Looking for a gaming laptop, went to JB and was offered the following:

  • Dell m17x R3
  • 3D 1080p display
  • i7 2760
  • GTX 580m
  • Bluray drive
  • 1.5tb HDD (2x 750gb)
  • 8gb RAM
  • 3 year warranty

$3189 or $3289 depending on if I bought 1 or 2.

Legit? What's the deal with the 3D display? Is this better or worse than the normal display?

  • What's the deal with the 3D display

Ummmm. It's 3d. Where you wear 3d glasses and watch videos and play games in 3d vision?

  • Probably legit, if it's indeed GTX580m. The same setup + 3 year warranty - 15% off coupon (5KQ823PGSSBDM6) on Dell.com comes down to $3439.17. If you have got Founder level cashback from StartHere, you'll be able to get back 7% ex-GST amount back, which makes it $3220.30.

So $3189 ~ $3289 would be doable by JB Hi-Fi, especially if it's their own warranty instead of Dell's.

  • Thanks for the feedback guys!

Re: the 3D question, it was more around the panel itself and if it's technically very different… should I want a 3D display even if im not going to use it for 3D?

Yeah I think it's their own warranty.

Not sure whether to bite the bullet now, or wait till one of those "20% off laptops" type sales.

    • it was more around the panel itself and if it's technically very different…

Yes, the 3d full HD panel is actually what makes the laptop expensive.

If you don't require 3d, and can live with lower end graphics (GTX 560m) then you'll only need to spend $2,518.71 (this includes 3 year warranty). ($2,963.19 before coupon) This is a fairly big difference from the 3d equipped model.

      Here is what I selected:

      • What about 6970 instead of gtx560. 6970 are better but how much more?

  • Just go with something like this for $2099 http://www.logicalblueone.com.au/store/474-clevo-horize-p150…

    • Maybe OP wants Alienware because of the looks. Which I like it too =D

This might be a better option for $200 more.
You can fit 3HDDs in there and it's 18.4" screen

  • Hmmm thanks for the info guys. Will have to think about this a bit more…

I knew I could rely on the OzB community! =P
