Whom Should I Inform a Temporary Address Change?

Hi everyone. I am a renter and my place is undergoing a renovation work that would take about two months so my landlord moved me to another apartment unit in the same block temporarily. Other than vehicle registration, insurance company and utility companies (I had to disconnect electricity and have it on in the temporary place. The landlord covered the cost and will do the same when I move back), do I have to tell anyone else that I changed address since it's just temporary? And if I don't, could there be any repercussions later on, legal or otherwise?

I was wondering if anyone else, whether a renter or an owner, had to move temporarily and whom they informed about the temporary address change. I live on my own and I am more of a work-to-home-to-the-supermarket kinda guy. Not sure if the trouble of informing every relevant department and company, as well as going through all those online manual address changes are necessary since the move is only temporary.

Yes, you have to inform all relevant parties or you might get into trouble.

Nah. The ones you already informed are the key so you'll be fine.

Haven't been in this situation so I have no idea.

Call in at your local Post Office and fill out a mail redirect form.

From memory you can specify the length of time that mail will be sent to your temporary address.

    • Yeah, my landlord is also forking up for mail redirect cost as well, but the previous tenant left a huge lock on the mailbox of the new place and it's full (can see envelopes sticking out the front) so can't redirect mail yet until they fix that. I am walking to the other mailbox and getting my mail from there for now.

Well if you have access to the old mailbox and nobody else is living there and your move is only temporary, why do you need to notify anybody? Seems like its a huge hassle for nothing.

        • Will do exactly that. Thanks

I wouldn't bother changing a thing unless you need to, 2 months is nothing

    • I'm leaning towards that too. Was just little bit nervous that I might be taking a big risk for not changing it. Fingers crossed it will go all smooth and will go back to my previous address with no issues.

You can still access your mailbox, right?

Yep. The other place is empty and it's just around the corner so I might just keep everything as it's and go collect my mail from there.

Your new letterbox is probably right next to your old one. I wouldn't bother. If anyone showed up for you and really wanted to speak to you, they would have your number or could find your number.

Well, tell the Easter Bunny. :+)

Also, Menulog and Uber and UberEats.

  • It's a great opportunity to run afoul of the mob
