Why Is Fire Stick Basic More Costly than Lite?

Hey Guys,

So I have the 1st gen Amazon Fire Stick that I bought when it first came out for $69 and I was looking on selling it. But I saw that everyone was listing it for sale at higher prices ($80-$100) now on sites like eBay, so I've decided to sell it for the same price $69. The newer model, the Fire Stick Lite is cheaper at $49 and seems to be faster.

Anyone know why the basic edition is more expensive even though the Lite is newer and faster? Thanks!

  • Lite is newer and faster and cheaper

    • But the question is why would something faster and newer be cheaper? Why would anyone pay more for something older and slower?

      • Cost optimisation by Amazon, yield on more recent chips is higher so they can lower costs, etc

        • That doesn't explain why everyday people would be willing to pay more for something old and slow. You don't find old iPhones worth more than the newer ones.

  • +2

Speculation only, but the 1st gen had a Snapdragon CPU that might be useful for homebrew mischief. They changed later to a cheaper MediaTek CPU that you could probably get cheaper elsewhere. Might also be a custom ROM choice.

    • Pretty sure you were able to side load apps into the original. Not the new I assume. MediaTek sucks unless you want to be stuck on stock.
