Any Recommended Advanced Driving Courses

With the plethora of what appear to be shit drivers on this forum (some questions are mind blowing), I thought I'd ask the 2 or 3 people who may have actually done one

  • has anyone done an advanced driving course?

How did you find it - good value, highly recommended?

What sort of costs, length of course, (1 day - 2 day etc), locations etc.

Might help some of the "Hi… I've had 5 crashes in 2 mths and cant get insurance as I lied to em and Im a shit driver" or "do I have to stop at a red traffic light" kind of people.

    Might help some of the

    a) Most are likely trolls
    b) People who need help likely won't see themselves as the problem until it's too late

    • Both extremely valid points.

    • Also one of the top ranked mindset here is "never had this issue" before.

I think there are some defensive driving courses in Sandown raceway

    • Did one at Sandown a number of years ago on a Groupon. It was great

there's a great driving course called the black spur drive

    • reefton on the way back has better roads

    • Try a speed run up Mt Hotham. In a lot of the turns you can actually see far ahead so can use both lanes quite safely. On the plus side off-season these roads are pretty empty, no need to rage about sharing the road…

      Mt Bawbaw's pretty good too.

  • personally recommend any advanced driving courses from Driving Solutions , having previously done one i would not hesitate to do a refresher.

Most people seems to have completed offensive driving course. Doing defensive would just get them even more confused.

  • See if you could have avoided this one!

  • aami offers one at sandown if you are with them

    • I did the course with AAMI many years ago as it was a way to reduce my insurance premium. They were telling us to pump the brakes if needing to stop suddenly, rather than just keep the foot down, and I was like "Are you sure? That's not what you are supposed to do if you have ABS (which most cars have)". The instructor had NFI.

      • how much did it reduce the isurance by?

  • I did a one day defensive driving course at Eastern Creek a while back. One of the most useful driving lessons I've done as it gave me the confidence to safely manoeuvre and stop at higher speeds. There was also an ambulance doing the course at the same time for their driver training.

  • With a car club, I did a lot with NSW WRX club but more clubs will have driver training days as part of the calendar.

Its way cheaper to do their driver training days and lot more fun. I did some other advanced driver training mob with missus, more about brake distances and few witches hats. Clubs will do sections of a track then open track, as well as skid pan events.

  • You mean, a driver wanting this training has to pay money? :)

The sentiments from the past OPs and future OPs is they are cheaping out already and if they wanted to be trained for such a course, they would have already drove carefully and have comprehensive insurance.

    Self fulfilling prophecy.
