Which Outdoor 4G Modem?

I live in an area that has bad reception for 4G and find myself placing my hotspot phone outside during sunny weather to get decent speeds. Can anyone recommend a dedicated waterproof 4G modem?

I think instead of putting the modem outside, I think you can buy external antennas for modems.

  • Just out of curiosity, if by chance you have better 3G signal, have you tried forcing 3G only in the modem settings? Sure, your speed may not be as great, but it may be more consistent, and would negate the need to take the modem outside or use an external antenna.

    • This ^ Not many data hungry users left on 3G, with HSPA+ you'll get acceptable speed most of the time.

Or better still, get a decent 2CA+ modem i.e. Huawei B818, CPE Pro etc.

It's time to rethink your setup

We use the main phone as a hotspot but I can't get enough range from house to shed.

Get a proper modem, with proper wifi, and put it near your window (inside). You'll be surprised how far it'll reach

And you can plug in outdoor Antennas with cables as long as you want them. We have a client with this setup and antenna on the roof.

  • Was looking into this before committing to starlink.

Was steering towards the Huawei 5g cpe win, IP65 rated, should be sufficient for rainy days.
