eBay Dan Murphy's Sent Wrong Product

So I ordered a carton of beer with Ebay plus from Dan Murphy's, and they sent a different beer.

The beer they sent is actually worth more than what I ordered.

If I raise this with Dans/ebay, what is likely to happen?

The beer(s) in question aren't stocked in QLD so it's not a simple return/swap.

If you drink it all, then there was no beer to begin with.

You deserve a case of beer, why no buy some from Dan's on eBay ?

They will ask you to pay the difference…

      Really? That doesn't seem likely.

Lol so you started a forum post about it?

It's worth more… But I actually quite wanted the beer I ordered.

I actually quite wanted the beer I ordered.

Then tell them they sent the wrong one.

They will either ask you to ship it back, and they will pay for the freight or they will tell you to keep it.
Either way, they should send you what you ordered or refund your money.

          • @Poimandres:

Just trying to ascertain which is more likely.

            Toss a coin…

            • @jv: Maybe I'll crack one and see if this beer pleases me.

You can call and ask them what they'd be doing in this situation. If they don't tell you what you want to hear, then don't give them your order details and just hang up! 😆. (or say that your dad ordered it under his name and you'll go get the details later or whatever - just something to avoid giving your info upfront).

            • @spackbace: I mean I've been active here for years and my love of beer hasn't subsided so I guess not? Lol

          • @Poimandres: What's with all the down votes? Yeesh

    • Humble brag.

      • Lol it's really not. I just want to know if I can leverage this for free beer.

They will send the beer police to your house, who will replace your beer with an entire case of Fosters, which they will make you drink. I've seen it and it's not pretty.

    • They'll never take me alive!

Do you like this beer? Will you drink?

If so, say nothing and enjoy.

Could be anything from sending it back to part refund to saying just keep it etc.

But it will depend, have you opened/consumed anything yet? If so, yeah just keep going and carry on.

      I'm tossing up.

      The beer I ordered is 4% 24 cans rrp = $50 (paid $43)
      This beer is 6.2% 24 cans rrp = $63

But the 4% beer was a peach session IPA, and this is just a pale ale. Same brewery, but reviews of the beer they sent are quite good and it was canned in Dec.

I might need to drink about it for a while.

If you got a slab of beer that wasn't a slab of peach IPA, I'd be happy

    Drink all the beer.
complain to them that they made you drank the wrong beer and you are very upset.
Ask for a refund, or send the correct beer, to compensate for your phycological injury.

May be tell them that a bottle or two has already been consumed by family and then you noticed that it is not the correct one.

Obviously they can't sell the used carton to anyone else and might let you keep it and send you the one you ordered as well:)

    • Good suggestion. What is there to lose?

      • Your dignity as a human being? :P

I'm not going to lose any sleep over the moral quandry of Dan Murphy's potentially losing a carton of beer. I would never try and fleece an independent retailer.

They are too big to care. If they ask just say you drank it already and didn't take note of it.

Pretty sure they let you keep it and send you the one you wanted. Knew someone whose order was a bit damaged on arrival with a few bottles broken by the apologetic delivery driver but turns out it was the wrong item anyway. Dan's let them keep it and sent the right goods as well.

  • Dan Murphy online sells a lot of shipped by third party supplier marketplace products. if its not stocked instore maybe this is where the issue is.

    • Looks like this is only sold through their Ebay page or in the local state (WA).

It's not a standard online offer direct from the supplier.

I wouldn't want the brewery to be out of pocket, but I have no qualms about taking Dan's for a ride.

      • At worst, the brewery will get paid for what you actually ordered, and they're out maybe $5-$10 profit (or whatever their margin is) - assuming it's a "dropshipped by supplier" type product. Otherwise, Dan Murphy's is out the difference. Hard to say.

  • Do you think you could drink the beer… and don't worry about the hassel?
Give them away, use as "guest beer"…

  • Well I mentioned that they delivered the wrong beer, and they offered to pick up the carton and send the correct product or pick up and refund. I decided just to drink the beer I already have and leave it at that.

    Nothing ventured, nothing gained.
