Standard Printer or Label Printer for Aus Post Labels?

Currently I use the four to a page labels supplied by Aus Post, and print them with my eco tank printer.
I was wondering if it’s better to just get a single labelling machine and buy the labels.
I was sending items that just weighed the same, so I could print all easily, but now i’m doing different weights so, they have to be done separately.
For time efficiency and cost saving, i’m looking for the best option.
If you use a label printer, which one? and where to get supplies?

  • I'd recommend using a thermal printer. It will save you a lot of time.
Plus if you have eparcel contract have a look at shpstation.

  • i have a dymo 450, it doesnt work with auspost, but yeah themal label printers are good to be honest only buy those if you are shipping enough parcels (at least 20 a month i'd say)
if you are sending not so often then just use regular old standard b&w printer, with shorter cut out pages (a6 instead of a4 size)

    • I do about 150 a week at the moment

      • Yup definitely go with a thermal label printer gonna be better in long run, short offset,

I suggest something like brother or zebra label printer but make sure the model is compatible with Australia Post because I thought mine was but it wasn't actually so I had to manually print and edit and waste my time with barcodes and typing everything (it worked with sendle, even though not with Australia Post)

        • Is there a list of printers that are compatible with Auspost or should I just speak to my account manager ?

@chakel: I think Australia Post needs 4 X 6 inch labels so compatible means printer that prints 4 X 6 inch print labels

I use Brother QL-1100 Label printer with DK-22243 102mm x 30.48m Continuous rolls (this label printer had a build it auto cutter)
Per label cost (I bought this https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/5-1-Rolls-Compatible-DK-22243-BR…)
    is 4.3cents per label

    • isn't its bit expensive then Dymo ?

  • Yeah, thermal label printer would be the way to go. I started using a Brother 4XL a few years ago and very happy.

Just don't put tape over the thermal label of course as the writing will effectively disappear after time.

My brother is also a 4XL…we need to have a chat to him about losing some weight.

Currently I use the four to a page labels supplied by Aus Post, and print them with my eco tank printer.

Depends… Are you using the auspost bags with the clear plastic window? If so, then a 'stick on label' is a waste of money!

I would move away from a inkjet printer and just use a laser printer. Cheaper running costs.

You can use smaller paper size A5 or A6 to print your labels. A5/A6 slip in nicely to the clear window without cutting/folding etc. BUT the cost of a A5/A6 ream is the same and often more A4, so I just fold up a A4 paper as needed.

If you are printing 4 labels to a page, maybe grab a paper guillotine to make cutting them into 4 easier. You could also use the paper guillotine to cut up A4 into 4 aka A6 or into 2 aka A5. Load these directly into the printer and print 1 label per page (ensure you set the paper size correctly to do this).

But if you are using boxes etc, and a stick on label would work better, so yes get a label printer etc.

Get a Zebra GK420d and order your labels from Avery Dennison

  • Thermal labels are very cheap. I'd recommend these. In bulk they're only a cent or 2 each (maybe less for lower quality labels). They won't fade like thermal receipts, I've used ones that have lasted decades in the sun and look like new.

Also no ink or toner to worry about, only consumable is the label so it's easy to manage.

I get the labels off eBay.

    Auspost Compatible.

  • Hi chakel
First as for your question, I will go for label printer, the reason are:
    * It is more efficent, so you dont need to use tape and scissors anymore, you can just peel and stick
    * It is cheaper, It doesn't require ink, and 500 hundred labels only cost 11.99 dollar in our website
    * It is more durable, which means you dont need to worry the paper you stick on falls off, or got damaged by the rain

We run a label printer brand called Hotlabel, feel free to visit our website and have a look, just drop a coupon here OZExclusive you can get a shipping label printer for only $129 with this coupon

  • Hi, can anyone advise me which label printer/s works with MyPost Business (not eParcel)? Thanks.
