  I just started playing this game today, inspired by all these gem giveaways that require Adv lv 10 to redeem. I was planning on just hitting 10 to be able to redeem these but I think I will stay for exploration of what might be the prettiest game I've ever played.

  The amount of different currencies in this game has me quite confused. They throw you right into the deep end all at once. A game that tutorialises properly will introduce you to its elements one at a time slowly so you don't get overwhelmed in the beginning.

  I had a question or two.. how does day/night work in this game? Does time pass dynamically at a set rate like in an MMO, or is it scripted?

  How do I sell things? I got a lot of duplicates and junk, but no vendor buys any of my stuff.

  Can you play this game using just the free characters or do they suck? How many free characters are there?

  Have I permanently missed out on any content by being late to the party?

  Should I try to level up a small number of characters, or spread those books out?

        Chill out a bit, all the choices you make levelling your characters and weapons until 2nd ascension barely matter.

        You have time to google most of your answers, no rush to get these codes in they come out regularly.

        Yes you’ve missed a couple of things, but nothing major this game is pretty good at not having content FOMO, I started last patch 1.3, 1.2 had a great 4 star sword that it gave out that I still need.
        The benefit of starting late and having heaps of added quest content outweighs this.

        100% focus on only the characters you like best. Overworld is party of 4 only. Late game will eventually require 2 separate party’s of 4. Ideally you want at least 2 characters maxed out at some point (your main damage dealers)

        The beginning characters are pretty average, by AR10 you will get a bunch of free rolls, it’s a strategy to repeat the start a bunch of times till you get a rolled character you like

          So you can miss items and rewards, but not gameplay or story content? Not cutscenes or events, correct?

          what do you mean by this? You replay the game from the beginning?

            @lostn: Yes I believe he meant, even if you start in the distant future, you dont miss any of the main or side story lines per se. You miss out some of the events that come with each patch and their subsequent rewards, which usually come in the form of farmable items. (To my knowledge, the only rewards that directly impact gameplay since patch 1.0 has been the "Festering Desires" sword and 2 free copies of a 4 star character, which are decent but by not means irreplaceable or get FOMO about).

                @lostn: Reroll is at AR7 I think. Only if you are hardcore committed to the game. I myself started a week after launch and couldn't be bothered, >98% of the game is completable with free and guaranteed characters.

                There are 6 perma free characters so far, 2 more from past events, and 1 more from your 1st pull. Xiangling, the MC, Noelle, and Kaeya are versatile and good characters. Choose 1 of these 4 as your DPS and dump most of your resources into it. The rest have their niches but are harder to build.

                It's possible that events and their rewards may rotate in the future as is usual in gacha games. Just take it slow and enjoy the exploration tbh.

    You will need those ‘duplicates and junk’ to upgrade your main weapons and artifacts later.
