Was in the 20s a few days ago for one of the colours but i missed posting it. Been looking at head lamps and stumbled across these. They're $65 on Wild Earth and the aqua blue is just a thin strip on the head band. Stock is in UK so will take a little bit longer to get here

Spote is also cheap https://www.amazon.com.au/Black-Diamond-Headlamp-Unisex-Adul… $24 vs $54 at Wild Earth

  • I've found most of the 'adventure' brands offerings in the headlamp space to be utter crap unless you're willing to fork out hundreds for the top models. Obviously it depends on use, but I wouldn't buy a non-usb rechargable headlamp these days - they're so cheap. I'd recommend checking out the biolite 330 or any of the rechargable offerings from Decathlon as they're great.

    • im tossing up between this and a cheap rechargeable one from amazon. i think for some people having the batteries is better as on multi day trips you may not have an option to recharge but buying a few AAAs from a roadside stall is a lot easier. though for many having the basic usb ones are probably better. i was looking at everbeam h6 pro but cant find any reviews out side of amazon

    • The issue I have with USB rechargeable torches is remembering to recharge them. It is very quick to switch batteries.
The advantage of USB rechargeable torches is that you can easily charge from a power bank.
The disadvantage of USB rechargeable torches is that in most models the battery is not easily replaceable, so once it degrades the torch is useless.

  • I would just order from aliexpress for $2 each. I find the COB Led with 3xAAA models to be perfectly adequate.

If you are out in the middle of nowhere in the dark, i wouldnt trust my life with a $2 torch from China. I have been using an older Black Diamond Spot for the past 5 years and very happy with it on my trail runs. Well worth the money

If I'm in the middle of nowhere in the dark, then I probably have two, possibly three torches and my mobile phone. In my experience the torches tend to get lost before they break.

I have this exact one and I love it, threw out all the cheap ones I had and bought a second one. It's a really good, light and elegant headlamp and this is a really nice price for it.

    • Elegant? 😂
      Does it have angle adjustment?

      • Hell yeah, it looks nice, it's thrice smaller than the others and it wears good. It goes from straight ahead to like 45 degrees down.

  • Purchased last month. Been using for running and its fine. Great light and a few settings. Using with Eneloop AAA batteries no problem.

  • Looks good. The lack of waterproofing turned me off though.

    • This is IPX8 and waterproof. Tried and tested FYI

A heap of reviews stated that there at no seals, and complain of corrosion or failure.

Anecdotally, I've been using it for fishing in the surf, in the rain, without issue

      • From their website:
If submerged, water may enter the battery compartment and it will still operate, and it should be dried out completely afterwards
Please note that the headlamp must dry after getting wet. Simply remove the batteries and leave the battery compartment open

The Black Diamond Astro 175 is $29 at Tentworld: https://www.tentworld.com.au/buy-sale/black-diamond-astro-17… (just an alternative cheaper option

And the 325 is $49 which is probably better than waiting it to come from the UK and with local warranty

  • Is it too bulky for running?

    • To be honest I have a pet hate for trail running with a headlamp that's not weight balanced - hence why I went with the biolite 330 (battery unit on the back). I carry a cheap spare with me (from Decathlon), but haven't had to use it yet.

      • I also noticed BD has running specific headlamp Sprint 225 but it's li-ion and only lasts 1.5-2 hours per charge.

    • No but you should get one with 3 elastics one around your head and one on top.l for more stability in running. This one may drop down on your forehead sometimes

    • Been running with it fora month 3x a week and no issues. Comfortable enough. But yes if you need to specifically for running I suggest purchasing the 3 way elastic head band.

I use this for early hikes and running in the rain with no issues so far.

  • It was on clearance at tentworld a few weeks ago for $50. Great lamp I bought it because of the red light to see at night. And the batteries which is good for multi day trips where you can’t recharge (and let’s face it rechargeable batteries have limited lifetime and the charge capacity drop over time)

  • check out the Nitecore nu25 - about the same price on AliExpress.

I found a good deal on the larger and more powerful nu32 - no idea if the store is any good, but a great price https://au.lightmalls.com/nitecore-nu32-cree-xp-g3-s3-led-55….

I ended up buying the nu25 because it is so much lighter.
