Budget Newborn Monitor Camera Recommendations

Hi All

I need recommendations for a budget Newborn Monitor Camera so that we can keep an eye on the baby if in the kitchen and the baby is asleep in the bassinet in a room…

I just bought the TP Link C200 to monitor my dog and it does everything I need it to do

    Works fine.

I don't know what the requirements are to monitor a baby though as children are the spawn of Satan and if I was to let them into my house, they would feast on my soul.

personally, i don't think you should put a camera on your baby (especially if it is your first born). I see friends fixated on the camera, waiting for something to happen so they can spring into action.

It does make it easier to make the call whether to respond or not. Sometimes the audio cues don't give you a good idea of what's going on - bub could just be stirring before resettling.

Are they a must? No (neither are audio monitors for that matter, unless you're sleeping too far from baby to hear). But they are helpful.

Also keep in mind distances. Depending on what frequency the monitor transmits on you'll get less distance before it starts dropping out. Also be mindful of interference on that frequency (although usually not a lot you can do about that). Ours operates on the DECT range and if both monitors are on the further one can be a pain dropping in/out when we're in bed (which is literally opposite corners of the house).

Bought the Nannio Comfy and I'm happy with it, looked at all the more premium options since I like my gadgets but they didn't provide much more that I'd actually use.
The only thing is the temperature sensor is inaccurate but camera and sound have been solid.

Exactly the same experience here. We’ve had ours for coming up to 18 months and been very happy.

We just got an IP cam and mounted it above his cot but blocked its access to the internet through the router so it only works on internal traffic. About $50. Dont be sucked into expensive "baby monitors".

We also bought an Owlet o2 monitor which straps to their foot. It gave us added peace of mind that he wouldnt die in his sleep.

I bought a Xiaomi cam, maybe we got some other viewers too but I choose not to think about it anymore 😂

But, it's pretty good quality for the price though. Night vision is pretty clear and you can talk through it, just that it won't do the baby monitor function of notifying you of sound if that's what you are looking for. You can set it to notify you when it detects movement but you'll probably end up turning it off.

We got an audio only monitor from a local buy nothing page, a Motorola something and it's actually really good at detecting sound. Pair it together and you get a good cheap set up going.

If you have a spare iphone there is a $5 app that can do this.

  • It might sound strange but i brought a $39 click brand camera, from Bunnings and it has been a fantastic cheap camera for my granddaughters room.

  • Thanks all.
