Good Holden Mechanic (South Eastern Suburbs Victoria)

Hi, does anyone know a good independent Holden mechanic in South Eastern Suburbs Victoria.

My 2014 Captiva needs a 100k km service and I’m hesitant to go to a dealer for fear of bill shock.

Thanks

I'm pleasantly surprised your 2014 Captiva has got to 100,000 km. Well done!

  • Check from your log book what service is required and ask your standard mechanic. I had encountered this issue with my 2011 Subaru. I do get my Subaru serviced with dealer and thereafter dealer gives you list of things that need to be attended in near future say 1 year and they are like Brake pad needs replacement as still 15% life there or tyres are due during next service and finally my lower arm bushes were getting wearing out. So thereafter i go to my local mechanic and give him list of non urgent issues and get my car repaired. If you go to independent mechanic he will do what you have asked him to do, say change oil or give long eye check, but you dealer knows the car and issues with the age of that car and guide you to give you extra life to your car.

but you dealer knows the car and issues with the age of that car and guide you to give you extra life to your car.

      What a load of hogwash.

      It's a Craptiva not a 918 Spyder.

      • Ahem…. my mechanic knows my car well. It's a '98 Ford Futura wagon with 2 design faults.

It is regularly serviced as required and well maintained with servicable parts adjusted or replaced as needed.

The 2 design fautls are 1) the damn handbrake cable and it's complex adjustment procedure and 2) the power steering fluid pump which (will eventually leak) placement straight over the alternator. Power steering fluid is the natural enemy of the alternator.

These sort of things and other normal wear and tear are known by a car's regular mechanic and checked if he's worth his crust.

A dealer however, sort of does this with a good chance by an apprentice, and also much more expensively with more parts replaced or serviced than actually needed.

A good mechanic will, for example, suggest in his invoice and verbaly the brakes need replacing next service. A dealer will replace not only the shoes/pads, but give the disks a grind (which means replacing them next time) and also replace the brake fluid (and the battery fluid and top up the electrons if they could get away with it).
