Tablet recondition for kids and travel

Heya,

Looking for some advice on tablets. We have been sharing an iPad between 3 kids and it’s got to the point life would be easier if they had their own.

I’m looking at the Alldocube iPlay 30 Pro, as it looks to be great value. But this morning noticed kogan selling the Amazon Fire HD 10 for a decent amount less, which got me thinking maybe the I play was overkill? The Samsung Tab A7 has also been suggested to me

Coming from an iPad I’m not really sure what to look for in an android unit and before I go out and buy 3 devices, any advice is welcomed

Main uses are:
PokémonGO (needs a gps i believe?)
Media playback (locally stored and streamed)
Web based learning (chrome is preferable)

FireHD10 is decent hardware for the price, but you'd have to import them and the Default Operating System is pretty locked down and heavily pushes Amazon content.

You can load a custom Launcher, to avoid all the Amazon crap, but it takes effort.

Amazon devices also don't come with Play Store. Once again, you can do a heap of work to get it installed, but it's a PITA.
You can install apps from Amazon's App Store, which is OK, but has fewer apps and they also tend to lag behind in updates.

    Sideloading is possible.

No GPS on FireHD10, so no Pokemon Go.

    • Thank you, I really appreciate your reply! That rules out the fire HD :)

Do you have a favorite tab?

      • I bought an iPad most recently. The first iOS device we've ever owned.
Came to that conclusion after scanning the market and finding that Android tablets only fall into 2 categories these days. Either junk (no-name brands) or priced the same as an iPad only with less power and shorter software support (the higher end Lenovo's and all of the Samsungs).
Even the Samsung Tab A is priced so close to the bottom spec iPad that it felt like a rip off.

I still have an old original Nexus 7 (in working order but too s cheaper tablets I'd be looking at low to be useful for much) and a Lenovo P8 bought a few years ago (circa 2016 I reckon) and the last of the cheap but decently specced Android Tablets.

If I were in the market for cheaper tablets I'd be in the secondhand market looking at older iPads.

  • Following! We're looking to get two 10" Android tablets for our kids
