Redmi Note 9 Pro Apps Started Crashing since This Morning

Since waking up this morning, my Redmi Note 9 Pro has been acting weird. A lot of apps will crash from either trying to simply run them or when trying to access a part of the app. It first started with LINE, which will just crash. I noticed other apps like XE, PayPal, Amazon Alexa do the same thing. I just tried searching for emails in my Outlook app, and the moment I press that magnifying glass icon, the app crashes.

Rebooting my phone does nothing (usually it would). I've tried deleting the cache, data or just reinstalling XE, PayPal and Amazon Alexa. They work after the fresh install, but they start crashing like before only 5 minutes later. I'm reluctant to reinstall LINE because I haven't backed up my chat history.

I've never had issues with this phone since I got it 6 months ago. I have no idea why just out of the blue this has started happening. I'm wondering if there was an update overnight that has messed up my phone.

Has anyone experienced anything similar or have any advice?

Not sure if it's related, but I saw on the Google Pixel Reddit that a lot of users also had the same problem a few hours ago

Edit: Apparently related to WebView? Google Android apps crashing 2021 for more information

    • Yep, most likely. Thanks

I uninstalled WebView and the apps work now. Thank God I didn't have to go through the hassle of doing a reset and restore.

  • My Xiaomi Redmi Note 6 Pro is behaving the same way and I don't even have WebView installed - atleast not that I can see in Playstore. So, how do I uninstall something that is not in my Apps List or in PlayStore as installed?

    • It's called Android System WebView in the Play Store. Did you try searching that?

      • Yes - not showing as installed on my phone.

I uninstalled Chrome and the problem went away.

  • Had the same thing on my galaxy s9+, this would make sense.
Should've read the front page of the internet in hindsight before factory resetting.

    • Unaffected here with my Samsung A20.

  • same thing happened to my MI - Mix 3 5g. its just outlook and firefox apps.
I thought its because i dropped the phone this morning.ROFL
after i clear the app cache its all good now.

    • It started crushing again after i cleared the cache.
need to remove the webview as suggested above.

  • My Mi Max 3 has been doing it intermittently since the weekend. It's over 2 years old so I was just looking at new phones when I saw this post lol

  • I just went to uninstall and noticed there is an update for webview. I'll try it and see what happens before uninstalling.

    • I also saw an update for WebView, but as I've had no issues so far, I'm hesitant to install it in case it causes issues

Seems to be ok. I cleared app data after update. I'll see how it goes. Don't even know what it does…if anything.

  • My app started crashing on my Oppo from noon. Remembered this post. Updated webview (22 March) and now is good
