      NBN alternative.

      • I would look into this if I could but my main concern is that of reliability and that if it's fast enough for Netflix and other online streaming services

Id be off my family's Christmas card list if I changed to it and then half the stuff lags or skips

        • +2

With this sort of speeds you can easily have Netflix running on three TVs. But then again it depends on what actual speeds you get in your area. If you don’t play online games then you have nothing to worry about.

          • @TomGum: +1 for that description.
Thanks, bit hard to to tell what 20mbps capped service is going to feel like, so looking fwd to it

            • +2

@Samsungnote10: You will be fine. I use it with 4 devices, watching Netflix and Youtube at the same time, it buffer a bit, but after that it runs smoothly.
It also depends on your router. My setup is Netgear M1 (felix) -> Asus Rt ac68u (has good qos) then all devices connect to Asus wifi.

I used this setup before with vividwireless (12Mbps) and also ran well.

Reason I don't use M2, because only M1 at the moment can lock band, using Telnet. You can search on whirlpool about this.

              • @codinghelloworld: Nice, admittedly, with optus and voda, some rooms are only getting 2mb at times, but generally voda is pretty good, will give it a try to see if nbn replacement is possible

            • +2

@Samsungnote10: I watch Netflix & YouTube almost flawlessly on Telstra post-quota 2.1MBPS, this is going to be 9.5x that.

As long as your reception is fine it will be great for 1080p streaming.

              • @Jimbuscus: thats pretty amazing, ive had 2mbps on my phone and sometimes youtube wont even start!

            • +1

@Samsungnote10: I run my house on nbn 12. Which delivers me 10mbps in reality.

It’s fine for light usage and Netflix on normal quality for a few screens. If you’re used to the highest quality streaming I believe this won’t be for you.

        • +1

          pretty impressed

          to test, tethering off phone,
          -1080p on youtube on phone
          -1080p on youtube on laptop
          - downloading file at 1.5MBytes

youtubex2 is not lagging, just staying ahead

          • @Samsungnote10: One thing is that I do notice a difference in browsing and how long you're takes to start vs a 40mb connection

            It is noticeably slower.
But not to a bad state

        • Installed today and using as my primary home internet. Easily fast enough for Netflix and Kayo to stream at the same time.

Thanks! i've been sim-hopping for four months now, but free wins! (boost, vodafone, kogan, lebara)

  • $35 a month, is also good for a 4G backup at office.

    • Yeah really good value

  • Ok, so this is Postpaid "Subscription" Service. From the T&Cs:

Your Subscription and the inclusions will automatically renew on a calendar monthly basis unless otherwise stated.

Rings a bell - This is like Circles - using Calendar month, and also much like all Postpaid Services, I reckon.

Minimum monthly spend and total minimum cost is $35 (Fee). Must connect for minimum one month. Recurring monthly subscription Fee charged in advance until you notify that you wish to cancel.

What would be the best to get just one month free then? Activate on last date of the month to get billed 1 day + next month Free?
Or activate on First of the Month and then cancel immediately?

    • +5

It's not a postpaid subscription service. If it were a postpaid service they'd bill you at the end of the month.

Instead, it's a prepaid subscription no different from Netflix.

The day you activate is your monthly billing day, so if you activate on the 25th then every 25th they charge you for the next month. If you fail to pay (expired card or no balance) then they clearly say they give you 2 days grace before they cut off your service.

Normally you upfront pay for the first month $35 when ordering the sim card but obviously, the first month is now free with this promo.

If you're just trying to get a free month then simply sign up receive the sim but then immediately pause your subscription in the app. Similar to Netflix even though you've paused your subscription you can continue to receive the full month you've paid for (obviously the first month is free).

It remains paused for 242 days at which point they'll cancel the number after that.

You can also fully cancel the service in the app but this will cancel the number and end the service the same day.

      • +2

        Also noted this under billing:

An exception to this is if your pay cycle starts on the 28th, 29th, 30th or 31st of the month. Due to the changes in days of the month, if your payment cycle starts on any of these days, your cycle will wind up being on the 1st of every month.

Just signed up using this, thanks OP!

  • Got the sim and flower pack today. Nice packaging lol

  • Sim arrived today:
I was going to port my spare number across

went to felix app, enterered sim number, clicked ok, bam, welcome to felix, here is your new number

never gave me a chance to port

not a big deal for me, but maybe for others, unless i did it wrong

    • +4

You messed it up… when you ordered the sim you need to select I want to bring my number.

Message the support chat and see what they can do. The Vodafone systems have the ability to port a number after a service has been activated, I guess Felix (being 100% owned/operated by Vodafone) could be the same.

      • alright thnaks for that,

looks like me it was who stuffed up
        will give them a chat/msg

      • +4

awesome, got on chat, they canceled, the sim, closed my account and restarted the whole process, while being able to use my existing sim,

        thats pretty impressuve

  • +3

Activated today speeds are as expected https://www.speedtest.net/my-result/i/4495717178

    • Excellent and welcome aboard hehe

      • +1

Thanks, Not experiencing any congestion either speeds seem to be 20/20 24/7

  • Does anyone know if the Sim card is sent with a tracking number? I just ordered and need a tracking number to know when to pick up the Sim card from my local parcel locker, Cheers.

    • You don't get given a tracking number, but you can find out through the app when it gets delivered.

      • Oh ok, I see, thanks.

  • +1

i switch back to nbn and works

for the record, i tether my phone to the laptop and its working

    any ideas folks?

  • Hi. Has anyone ordered this SIM and requested a port over when registered it? My question is if I order this SIM under my name and D.O.B, could I activate it under another person's ID?

    • No you can't the sim is already linked to the name you used during the order process.

  • no id check on this?

    • This is not postpaid, it is a pre-paid subscription so no credit check at all

  • are there bill on calendar month or 30 days cylce?

if i activate today at 26/Mar, so i can cancel before 26/Apr to avoid further charge?

    • +3

If you activate today 26th Mar your next renewal will be on the 26th April

      • +2

I got my Sim and I'm waiting till the 1st.

  • +2

Just got my sim delivered along with some Brachyscome iberidifolia, Swan River daisy seeds.

    • +1

Got the exact same seeds too.

Also has odd-sounding English printed on the cardboard slip, which reads-

      Feels peachy
      acts green.

  • +1

Can someone advise if there is any ID check during activation?

    • +1

There's not. At least not for new numbers.

    • +1

No ID check for new numbers.

    • +3

No ID check when transferring a number too.

  • -7

YES THERE IS AN ID CHECK AND A CARD PRE CHECK… IT'S 2021 GUYS NOT 2001.

WE ALL HAD OUR TIME IN THE SUN WITH NO ID CHECKS BUT IT'S TIME TO GROW UP.

  • I'm getting congestion around 8:30PM-9:30PM. By 10PM, it's back to full speed again though.

I don't know if we are put on a lower priority.

    • +3

Must just be the Vodafone network in your area I get the full 20 down 20 up during peak

  • As much as I love the plan, I'm not going to renew
I've found the speeds are a bit up and down to stream effectively

Eg sometimes I'm youtubing from bed and it barely works.

Plus I need to have a phone/device permanently dedicated as a home connection

Plus I've noticed I get a noticeable speed decrease if I'm streaming to my laptop and the phone goes to the next room

    • +1

I purchased an AC1200 router with built in 4G+ modem which I have placed in a good spot near a window and antennas adjusted appropriately.

It then sends the LTE signal via WiFi which works better for a more stable connection and it's worth it for basically NBN20 @ $35.

      • +1

yup tru bargain way better speeds than nbn12!!!

  • Don't know how some people can get multiple accounts, possibly different name ? I applied for 4 different email addresses but the same name and address and got email below :

    • Did you use the same card? Some of us have multiple free card accounts from other deals which come in handy for these things. The easiest way to get caught is to use the same debited card.

      • Well, I used 2 different cards, so 2 email using A card, 2 email using B card. So far they only sent 1 Sim, 1 rejected, 2 still pending.

        • 4 to same address might have pushed your luck, I just did 2.

        • So you applied 4 with the same name? In that case they will only send you 1 sim and and one reject email. The other 2 pending are actually rejected. Why did you want 4 sims?

          • @TomGum: For my wife and 2 kids ?

            • @yht: Probably should have used your wife’s name for one of them.

          • @TomGum: free internet

Activated my SIM today. I'm in central Canberra (Lyneham) and got 19/19 in speed testing…

Streamed an AFL (Kayo) easily, no buffering via hotspot on a separate phone.

Great product. Not need for VDSL anymore and $70/month bill.
