Headlight Restoration - UV Coat

Hey OzB,

For some time now I've been looking at restoring the headlights on one of my car's. It has 8 years worth of age, which appears as these little haze cracks on the front lens and some very mild yellowing in some sections. The damage is probably a 5/10.

I've seen many ads and enquired but all operators seem the same, they sand, polish and then spray on some UV coat, or some just wipe a UV coat on it.

From what I can tell this UV coat doesn't compare to the factory process which I believe is sprayed on (like something a spray painter would do) vs. these off the shelf spray atomiser bottles or wipes. As such you maybe get 6 months before the UV wears off with these atomiser/wipes.

Does anyone know if there are people out there that actually can properly clear coat a headlight lens, and good enough to avoid the orange peel effect. I can't seem to find anyone, maybe I just isn't done?

I've seen some in Queensland, but I'm in Sydney. Or should I ask a few spray shops?

    2k clear coat

    • Is that the same as a hard coat?

      • From google
Two-component paints (also referred to as 2K paints) are paints in which a chemical reaction results in paint hardening.
