Lizard skin frame protector that’s about all I’ve used.

I haven't used proper protection tape before, but on my old commuter bike covered the entire frame in 3M's model 680 black retro reflective tape.

This was mainly to cover a dated red/white/black paint scheme and made the entire frame black by day, and very reflectively white in headlights.

Helpful from a safety perspective, and would give a moderate degree of scratch protection, but not as much as a specific scratch protecting product.

Most shops have very wide versions, but this ebay seller sold it in 25mm and 50mm tape like dimensions.

Look on ebay for 3M helicopter tape. It's nice and thick so even if rocks or posts ding your frame it won't break the paint underneath.

    • Is that peel off the paint as well if removed in the future ? Seems pretty good tape for the purpose

Should peel off Ok. Sometimes if you get a hard dent on the tape it will damage the paint underneath and then the paint comes off with it. But should not happen.

  • What are you protecting from? Rubbing or rock strikes?

I’ve had good results with some sort of 3M product, but can’t remember which type.

    • Rub, drops, rock whatever can cause cosmetic damage (if happens), just for peace of mind for time being
