HP Omen 15 Vs. Razer Blade 15

Hello,
I'm looking to buy a laptop, and my budget is around the $2000 mark. I'm currently in year 12, and hoping this laptop will take me through UNI, hence I'm looking for a good warranty policy.
The Razer Blade 15 looks appealing, along with the HP Omen 15. I've linked them both down below. According to friends and family, Costco has a great refund and warranty policy, which is important to me.

Both laptops are similar, specs wise, except the HP has a RTX 2060 and the Razer has a GTX 1660 ti.
The Razer costs $2,149.99 and the HP costs $1998, however, with JBHIFI's extended warranty plan, they will both cost about the same.

Which one is better? I've heard the Razer has better build quality, but that doesn't really that much for me. I'd like different perspectives on this dilemma.
Are there any other, better options?
Thanks :)

  • I assume you'll also be gaming on the laptop?
I've never owned either of brand but my experience with gaming laptops, I would advise to research
    - battery life - don't trust manufacture's rating, lookup reviews
    - weight, razer is about 2kg while the omen is 2.35kg. Both not too bad but anything 2.5kg+ starts to feel quite heavy
    - thermals, again lookup reviews to see how it performs under load

Both laptops are about the same in terms of specs, you'll probably want to upgrade the storage with either machine.

    • Portability isn't a major concern of mine, however it is a factor I am going to consider. I'd assume both laptops are going to have more than 3 hours of battery, which is adequate to my needs.
In terms of thermals, I will be using a cooling pad, which should hopefully keep the thermals in the 85-90oC range, at full crank.
From just looking at both machines, what would you recommend?

  • Ultimately comes down to what you want / need.

    Razer Pros:
    → Has a USB 3.1 port + USB3.2 port (supports faster speeds)
→ Has a free internal M.2 slot to expand storage (and is a faster drive speed)
→ Customisable fan speeds and backlighting
→ 120Hz screen (smoother detail, mainly if playing games)
    → Lighter (2.05kg vs "from 2.36kg")

    HP Pros:
→ Larger storage out of the box (512GB vs 256GB)
    → Better GPU
    → 3x USB-A 3.0 ports (+ 1x USB-C)
    → Card reader

    Mutual:
    → Same CPU (i7-10750H)
→ Same RAM capacity (16GB) and speed (2933 MHz)
    → Backlit keyboard
    → 6GB GPU VRAM

Note that the Razer's stats came from Centre Com, not Costco, as it's light on details (https://www.centrecom.com.au/razer-blade-156-fhd-120hz-i7-10…)

    • +1

HP appears to have a 144Hz display.

      • So it does - that's what I get for shifting sources midway through and not checking

The razer you have linked is not a good deal. Microsoft Store has a sale for $1999 for the base model. It has RTX2060 and 144Hz display. https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/613466

Best to check out some youtube reviews and see what you like.
