Cordless Lawn Mower Recommendations for Buffalo Lawn ?

Hi All,

Appreciate you effort in reading post and commenting your honest response.

I am looking for a lawn mower suited for below cases:
1) Buffalo thick grasses and for person who doesn't lawn move often
2) Taller grown up grass and weeds .( sometimes upto 700 to 800mm average).
3) Need support for lowest cut as well.
3) Lawn size approximately less than 80m2 yard.( not a big yard).
4) Not having plastic grass catcher.
5) Better mulching capability. ( as i use lawn mower for mulching most often).
5) Weather Resistance like rain and Sun.
6) Easy to Fold and rest on walls. ( to save space).
7) Price less than 600 AUD ( approximate 20 to 30 dollars more is fine). Not sure if its worth investing upto more.

I have tried Ryobi 5ah 36V brushless lawn mower, Greenworks 40v 4ah lawn mower, Ozito 2*18v Lawn mower.

Problem with Old lawn mowers:
1) Ryobi for denser grass as it struggles to cut and halts of it own and battery died of its own less than year. Not good-looking cut.
2) Greenworks problem working in sun and denser or grown-up grass it halts due to overheating and couldn't use for long time.
3) Ozito stopped with a slight touch of rain and secondly, i hardly see it works for buffalo grass.

i am looking to see if any other Cordless lawn mower that might help me. ( not interest in Petrol lawn mower). I have considered SKIL, but seriously doubt will i have same issues. How is Victa 82v 18", Masport 58v or STHL ? or any recommendations ?. I am not sure if less 5ah and less volts lawn mower will help me ?.

At last I ended up in buying Greenworks 40v lawn mower. I haven't leveraged big brands like ego or sthl or Masport but does a work decent way. The best way to maintain is to perform lawn mower frequently any decent lawn mower might work for buffalo.

  • How long or thick is your buffalo grass? Any photos?

I use a corded Bosch and it does the job ok.

    • sometimes upto 800 mm on average 40mm thickness is around 1cm and sometimes it gets denser as well.. Thank you for responding.

More than your budgeted $600, but my EGO cordless self propelled mower handles runner grass without breaking into a sweat.

Set on a slow travel speed and I just point it at the grass.

  • No cordless mower will do very well with overgrown lawn as you have indicated you let it get to.

Looks like you need to either cut the lawn more often to a normal height 30 to 50mm or use a corded mower or a petrol mower or even better a ride on mower if the yard is big.

    • Is it acceptable to cut around 300 to 400mm most of the lawn mowers will work ?

    Or get a new lawn?

800mm.. a petrol mower may even struggle

800mm? Get sheep or goats or something.

I have a Ryobi 18v and it handles up to 300mm without an issue but I don't think anything is going to handle groin high grass easily.

    • Thank you for response.. Not always 800mm i just want to give edge case where I have seen most of times it shouldn't cross more 400mm maximum. My problem is buffalo grass thickness and density it makes difficulty to cut.

    Sickle

  • Although your lawn is small and a mediocre mower could have done the job. But since you let it grow a lot you will need a better quality one. good reviews for Massport president, Honda and Ego lawn mowers

  • 700 to 800 mm .. lawn?

    • Height of the grass i mean as I hardly find a time to cut the grass on timely basis.

  • We have about 500sqrm of lawn, about 20-30cm tall grass. I'm thinking about cutting the grass shorter with a line trimmer first before going over it with a cheapo lawn mower. You can also try putting your lawn mower on the highest position when cutting taller grass. Not an expert by any means, this is our first property with a lawn.

  • How about paying someone to do it for you? It won’t get thick and you won’t need to shell out several hundred dollars for a mower.

FWIW I have a 36v ryobi. It struggles with thick buffalo, so I try to mow it more often.

  • Thanks all for your feedback. I see the best way to maintain is frequent lawn mowing instead of letting it grow almost any lawn mower will struggle for grown up lawn, but since winter is not that far and I see the grass is not growing well. I have seen the next six months; I can run without any issues.

I ended up buying a Greenworks 40V Lawnmower for 500 aud to maintain buffalo lawn works well for a short length of 100 mm. Of course, not a best of best in the lawnmower, but a small-sized property for a thick buffalo lawn works well do a neat clean finish.

  • Get the victa 82v. Plenty powerful and fits your budget
