How Can I Get a Refund from Microsoft for Xbox Gamepass That They Bought on My Behalf?

Microsoft decided to just charge me for Xbox Gamepass, and I don't even use it. Their website states that I can ask for a refund, and I tried to, but their support wont even respond to my help request. I even tried messaging their official Facebook page, but I got completely ignored. Then when their site asked me how it went, I left 1 star and wrote about how they won't even help, and no reply to that either. Why is their support so useless? How can I spek directly to a real human to sort this out?

    On a Sunday?

How did it get purchased or renewed? Your kids pressed okay on their Xbox?

It's possible that it automatically renewed or some shit after a free trial. But I don't recall using a trial, nor did I turn on any auto-renewal.

Why would people downvote me? Do you like supporting greedy companies?

        • +7

People are downvoting you since they know what you did. You (or someone in your family) signed up for a free trial. And you forgot to cancel it in time. They aren't greedy. They literally told you about it when you signed up! And the fact you had to provide your CC details - well, that would seem odd if they never planned to charge it…

          • @mjwills: They are greedy AND they told OP about it…

            • @Vampyr: Curse those pesky greedy companies, not giving away their services for free!

    Call them?

    • +6

They just said “call back when OzBargain lets you know their verdict…”

      • +3

Why do all these companies do that? Damn them and their penny pinching ways.

Did you buy a gamepass in the past? If you did then you forgot to uptick the "[X] Auto renew" option.

    • -8

I have not bought it before. And even if I did, it should be the other way aroun. I should have to tick it if I want renewal. They shouldn't assume I want it in the first place without asking. How many people get caught out like this because they're unaware of the auto-renewal? I'm sure Microsoft knows that a lot of people miss this detail, and capitalise on it.

At the end of the day, you need to read the terms and conditions of the trial. Most free trials will auto renew and you need to cancel at least 24 hours before.

@nuttapillar: I don’t disagree that it is slightly dodgy but I have not signed up to a free trial for a long time where you didn’t need to enter your credit card details.

Everyone has been hit with this and it is annoying but if you sign up for something, put a note in your phone calendar a few days before the trail ends to decide if you still want it.

            • @Randxyz123: Exactly.
And some people even have separate cards for stuff like this. That even if it does auto-charge, it would have insufficient funds and simply bounce back. I think some people even used "Gift Cards" since they're actually Eftpos cards, so when the company does get hacked and your details are sold and leaked, at least you're not quite financially affected.

@nuttapillar: Its the whole reason why they give you a free trial to begin with!

          • +1

@nuttapillar: Get it through your head that people or organisations that are hooked on receiving money have NO other consideration other than how to receive more. Your feelings on this are seen by them as totally and absolutely irrelevant.

You may not like what I'm about to say but the following comments are NOT meant as a personal attack - you come across above as totally naive AND/OR entitled AND/OR holding an opinion that the world should follow your ethical stance (I think that is why you have attracted the standard useless and anonymous neg nazis but that is just IMO).

While I agree with your stance on ethics etc I have no expectations that others will adhere to that and therefore say it is up to you to look after and protect you, don't expect anyone or anything to protect you, it's nice when consideration is unexpectedly allowed you but overall it's a nasty world out there.

          • @nuttapillar:

What happened to free trials simply being free trials, and not an attempt to reel in potential victims?

            Capitalism?

      • You have been a member long enough if you look at the forum to know what you have written is NOT how it works.

It's a subscription service, assume all subscriptions service have auto renewal enabled.

What I do, if I am interested in that product, is I join for the free trial and then instantly cancel. You still get your free trial period and they won't/haven't charged you. Its not the other way round….they prey on people who don't realize that.

I had an issue with my xbox gamepass account. I called them, they answered quickly and spent the time with me (took a good 45 minutes) to fix the issue. This was based off a membership that was still in $1 trial.

So I don't know why you've found it so difficult to get help. I was surprised by how easy they were to get ahold of.

EA/origin on the otherhand……now they were useless.

I think someone did not read the T and C before clicking accept!

However I have never had MS support ignore me and think the customer service is amazing, even if its something they can not revert due to policy or a customer not adhearing to the T and C's. Are you being rude to these MS consultants? Maybe thats why they are ignoring you.
