Reamped Energy Not Passing on Reduced Rates to Existing Customers

Just a PSA: You should always keep checking your address in the latest results on https://www.energymadeeasy.gov.au/. Every 3 months if possible.

I thought ReAmped might be different but just like the rest they have dodgy behaviour.

They reduced the advertised rates for the plan I'm on. They didn't notify me and didn't apply those rates to my existing account leaving me paying more.

Click Energy used to do the same thing but at least named each new rate change a different Product Name. And when I would call them up to get put on the better rates, they would backdate it to when that new plan was introduced (date found on Energy Made Easy site)

Hope it helps you save you some dollarbucks.

As a supporting argument against any capitalism fans, do you think they would automatically apply a price increase to your account?
If so, why is a decrease different?
I'm OK with the approach they're taking if your original prices are locked in for life and they can never increase the rates.

Some other dodgy things:
https://www.reampedenergy.com.au/pricing/
1. They put the "Classic" plan ONLY in the results of their pricing page when you enter your address.
You have to find the buried link to display the other (read BETTER) plans
2. They hide the rates. You need to click another link again to display them (as if that is not the most important factor)
3. You cannot put your address into the Pricing Page once you're a customer. i.e. they're hiding the latest advertised cheaper rates from you

  • I don't think any elec retailers pass on reduced rates automatically. They call them special offers, or new offers, for new customers only. Same deal with telcos, you sign up to a mobile plan at a certain rate and if you want to get a better rate in future it's up to you to contact them. Same with home loan interest rates.

Correct. It needs to be discount or different product/service name. It can’t be the exact same product/service name and you get one price and me another. Click Energy went with different products names, Banks and Telcos use discounts off the same rate.

Thanks mate. I just talked to them on online chat and got my supply and usage charge reduced by 2 cents each. Will had to go on an advance plan though where I pay 2 weeks in advance.

  • Moved from AGL to Reamped Energy. Unfortunately after a year with Reamped we discovered that we'd paid just over $200 more than we did with AGL (for 4 quarters, ie a year). The 'wash-ups' with Reamped also mean that you end up with unexpected surprises every now and then.

    • what are these "washups"?

      • Similar to accounting over Financial Years.

In this case it means that they use an estimated usage for 2 months to bill you, then use the actual meter read at the end of the 3rd month, which can result in some bill shock… but really you are just paying what the meter reads for the three months so it is not unfair

  • I also don’t like how they hide your possible pricing making your address unsearchable once you sign up. It’s a bit deceptive.

I checked with Reamped on my existing power rates. I had signed up back in November last year. Overall I am really happy with them, I am on the advance plan and have a smart meter, so billing is easy and rates are super low.

    My issues are:
    1. they block your address from their pricing online once you sign up so you can no longer see what rates they are offering. It isn't as simple as putting your neighbour in and seeing their rates if they have a different meter type. I tried various addresses in my street to then find one that has the same meter type (Time of Use) to compare rates.

You can also go on Energy Made Easy again and submit your NMI or bill.

Once I knew better rates are being offered, I launched a live chat.

Me: "Please review my pricing/rate as lower rates are being offered now"

ReAmped: "Thank you please advise if you’d like to change over. Prices include GST
    Current- Advance
    Peak: $0.1899/kWh
    Shoulder: $0.1899/kWh
    Off-Peak: $0.1899/kWh
    Supply Charge: $0.8751/day

    Available- Advance
    Peak: $0.1762/kWh
    Shoulder: $0.1762/kWh
    Off-Peak: $0.1762/kWh
    Supply Charge: $0.7645/day"

No brainer right??! Of course I want lower rate!

Me: "Is there any way as an existing customer, you can alert when prices decrease, or automatically switch customers down to new lower rates? It isn't a great customer experience when you also block your pricing information for existing customers to be unable to check address from your pricing online via your website."

ReAmped: "No sorry there is no ability to do that. The rate at which the network sells power to us constantly changes and pricing on our market leading plans can go up and down frequently as we respond to market conditions. We don’t always pass through the increases or decreases as this can create confusion for our customers, instead we move current customers at regular planned intervals onto the most recent prices with plenty of notice"

  • anyone knows if https://www.ewon.com.au/page/making-a-complaint/complaint-fo… gonna help with these dodgy decrease?

  • i'm curious, do they use bill estimates if you have a smart meter? surely bill readings will be accurate.

also, can smart meter usage data be downloaded via the online account?

  • ReAmped have lowered prices again (at least for my postcode). 26 October. Check https://www.energymadeeasy.gov.au/ and get on their chat.
