How to Extend TP-Link Powerline Adapter Network

Afternoon Everyone,

I currently have the TP-Link Av1300 setup for my home network.

I had a friend move in who also requires ethernet in another room, is it possible to further extend the network? And does anywhere sell individual adapters as I can only seem to find the starter kits which include two.

Thanks in advance!

You literally buy another set of Powerline adapters and plug one of them into the room where your friend is going to be staying.

A new adapter should automatically establish sync and connect to the existing powerline network and thus any computing device connected through that adapter should have access to anything else on the LAN (Internet, network shares, etc). Occasionally, you might have to press the connect button on the new adapter and then on another adapter before it establishes sync (or whatever the specific procedure is for adding a new adapter for your particular model; consult the manual).

does anywhere sell individual adapters as I can only seem to find the starter kits which include two.

No, every brand only sells Powerline adaptors in pairs unfortunately.

    • Thanks for the info! It is unfortunate they don't sell them individually

DON'T use powerline networking. Your power lines are leaky antennas and you're polluting the radio spectrum.

Run Ethernet cables instead or use WiFi.

      Use 5G instead

      And?

Is everyone running incredibly sensitive radio astronomy experiments in their own homes to detect deep-space radio waves?

I think you'll be fine, given the fact that every appliance in the average home gives off plenty of EMF interference, to say nothing of all of the WiFi/Bluetooth/Microwave spectrum crap in the average home and the fact that urban environments in general are blanketed in electrosmog, with the largest proportion of emissions coming from industrial or commercial sources not domestic ones.

Your concern about Powerline adapters being some major source of radio spectrum pollution is like worrying about the environmental impact of electric scooters in cities filled with ICE-powered vehicles.

You'll need to purchase another pair….may as well have gone mesh though.

    • You'll need to purchase another pair…

Only if they use different encryption key to the existing pair. OP can simply add another unit to the GPO provided they are on the same circuit and use the same key to join the network. Bandwidth will be shared between the two like an Ethernet Hub rather than Ethernet Switch.

OP problem space is buying one and not two units on market. eBay not helping .
