Recommendations for a Colour Multifunction Printer - Budget $500

Hi guys I am in the need to replace my trusty Samsung mono laser printer still working but we require colour one for my boy, any suggestions? Budget is around $500. My wife working from home and her company will pay toner for black colour only and exclude the printer cost.

Currently I am considering Brother MFC-L3750CDW however the toner very expensive $150 for black and $115 for each colour. So replacing all the toner are more expensive than the printer itself.

I also heard about ink tank printer, I heard that they are more economical and have superior picture printing quality, however the downside is that they need more maintenance and there is a printing counter that require for it to be sent to manufacturers and it will cost a lot. Anyone have any experience on how much it cost to reset the counter? Throwing away 500 printers every few years it's excessive.

Any recommendations for ink tank printer?

    I own a Brother MFC-L3750CDW. Thr printer itself is not too bad. I believe it is exclusive to Officeworks. You are correct that the toner is expensive. Personally, I prefer using genuine ink, so I generally buy it when it is in special, although even then it is till expensive. I have known people to use compatible generic ink, and it seems to work for them. That may be an option for you, because in most cases, genuine ink for any printer will always be expensive.

    I just bought genuine toners for my MFC-L3750CDW, the real secret is to have an officeworks business account. I get mine by having an ABN and being a CPA. However you do it… the business price on the toners is $92 each :]

      But still fairly expensive compared to the generic ones - you get the whole set for $65-$75 delivered (eBay etc).

    FYI 3750 does not have duplex scanning. You need to get the 3770 for that

    I have a "cheap" Canon TR8560 (cheap as in scanner, duplex printer, adf features) and a laser printer.

    The laser is used for B/W printing. The TR8560 is used for scanning and color printing.

    I buy the Cannon 681 XXL cartridges from https://www.inkstation.com.au/canon-pixma-tr8660-ink-cartrid… Been doing this for 2 years now with no problems, been through 3 sets of ink so far from memory.

    Be aware that the TR8560 has been replaced with the TR8660.

    I buy my ink refills at inkbank.com.au so you can refill your ink tanks yourself
    I can't find the resolution of the TR8560

    I have a the 6860 in the PIXMA, and have had it for yonks, and had a PIXMA b4 that as well

    I've had good experiences with the Kyocera M5521cdn/cdw, and aftermarket cartridges are reasonably priced (eg. eBay)
