Toddler Car Seat Recommendations

Hi,

Can anyone recommend a car seat suitable for a 3 to 8 year old please.

It's for my grandson for when we look after him once a week. I was thinking of one with a harness rather than using the car's seatbelt. I don't want to spend a fortune.

Any suggestions and tips are greatly appreciated, thank you.

parent here: I would just ask the parent to pick and buy something they would prefer to have. I am personally quite picky in what I want to seat my child in and wouldn't want my parents (grandparents) to buy the seats. whats considered safe 30 years ago is not the same anymore and everything improved.

  • What do you consider a fortune?

  • I like the idea of talking to the parents and asking for them to arrange something. If that’s not an option go to babybunting and ask for help. You’re after a harnessed booster. I have one of these as a backup for my kids. https://www.babybunting.com.au/infa-comfi-caprice-ii-convert…

I recently purchased the Britax - Maxi Guard for my child’s use in my parent’s car (grandparents), it’s as good as the others in their range without the bells and whistles (memory foam etc).

After price matching I got it down by a further $20-30.
Our local council had an upcoming professional seat installation check day and saved another $40-50 here for the install.
The installer advised me most councils and Child Safe Vic offer this service for free, worth checking.

    Good luck.

  • I have a Safe n Sound (Britax) carseat from a few years ago that you can easily adjust the harness and headrest height, without the need to take the carseat out. Don't know if that's a common feature (all my older carseats didn't have it) but I absolutely love it and it makes it so much easier to adjust the seat between the different sized kids I'm putting in there. Takes less than a minute to change the seat between fitting my 1yo nephew, my 4yo niece and my 7yo daughter. Could be a handy feature for grandparents.

  • 4 year old and above usually only need a booster (depends on their height). Booster is not as expensive as a child car seat.
But 3 yo is probably still on the borderline and still needs a car seat. So you might want to look for a convertible booster seat. You can try Infasecure. Their price ranges from 150 to 350.
