Parcel Delivered to Wrong Address. Sender Isn't Helping and Person at Address Won't Return Item

I had a parcel get delivered to a different address.

I rang Australia Post and they told me the address it got delivered to. I went to the address and they won't give it back

What do I do now?

I contacted the sender and they aren't helping. They also insist that I speak to the person who took the package.

But the sender is the person who spelt my address wrong.

File a PayPal dispute. The sender is the one that needs to deal with AusPost.

  • Lodge a case with Australia Post?

Chargeback if you used a credit card?

Lodge a case with Australia Post?

Can't if you're not the sender.

        I stand corrected

You can always lodge whatever you want to AP, but they will insist the sender need to be involved in respond

      • +1

You can in a roundabout way. AP will say the sender is the one who needs to make the claim, then after the initial complaint (required by the PIO) you just bump it up to the PIO and the dedicated AP rep usually plays ball when the amount is low (have only done sub $200 up until now, not sure about larger amounts)

  • Are you sure the sender got your address wrong? Usually you type it into the website yourself? Unless it was a phone order?

Eg Our postie frequently delivers our stuff to the wrong place (and vice versa) because of mixing up unit number and street number, but on one occasion, the bloke at the other address ordered some wine, but actually accidentally put in our address!

    • Did you like the wine?

      • Nah, I SMSed the receiver guy and at first he blamed AP, but when I sent the photo of the address on the box he came and picked it up. 😂

    • Phone order

Call police, ACCC, current affairs and pursue legal action

      You forgot Bikies

All I can say is thank goodness it wasn't couriers please, no chance their, just like a pyramid scheme. They didn't own up to their actions.

  • where did you buy the item from ?

Contact Police. File a theft report.

  • Get aus post to compensate you, their cause, they have no case, and they will compensate you
Also deliver that address a glitter bomb,

    • Glitter Bomb. Never seen a Deal on Ozbargin Yet.

    • Actually if aus post delivered to the correct address stated by the sender it’s the senders cause, chase them up, take them to small claims court.

    • *glitter

      • bag of dog turds.

I contacted the sender and they aren't helping

They didn’t deliver… how is this your problem?

    • Bad. Name and shame!!

  • +3

Sender will have to resolve the problem as Auspost did their part which was to deliver the parcel to the address provided to them

  • I went to the address and they won't give it back

    Really?

    • +1

Their are low life next door neighbors about

  • +1

I'm surprised Auspost gave you the address….But it will have to be resolved via the sender. Depending on what you ordered and how you paid will vary which avenues you can pursue to help your cause. A phone order with a debit card will be harder than say an online order paid via paypal.

My work sent some flowers once as a condolence, my boss asked if we received them to which I said no and we figured out they had been sent to my previous address. My wife went around there to get them back and the guy that was now living there had claimed them and gave them to his girlfriend lol She was pissed when she found out my wife was there demanding them back.

Did the receiver agree they had received it and then say they are keeping it?

If so, report to police as theft.

I received a parcel and it wasnt anything I ordered but was similar to stuff I had recently been buying, so I thought it was a mistake and threw it in the rubbish. (It was yukky clothes) Nextt day Australia Post came and said it was the wrong address. but it was too late and was gone I never thought it was a mistake

Incorrect receiver has stolen the item. They know it is not intended for them. Lodge a report with the police.
It is odd that some people have such low moral standards and want to keep something that is not theirs.

I had a item incorrectly delivered but with the use of the delivery photo I tracked down the address a few streets away. I knocked on the door and when I asked if they had received a parcel not intended for them they reluctantly admitted they did. The parcel had the right address on it and they were not going to do anything about getting it there. :-(

  • I just remember a year ago, answered the door and 3 cops were there saying they were investigating a case where something was delivered to my address incorrectly, I checked the address and they were after the neighbouring unit block…but I thought to myself it must have been a slow day, someone important reported it or the item was something very important?

      Probably tracking a drug delivery

  • Had same problem, know all about this, neighbours didn't want to give it back, so go to fair trades tell them everything and the issues will hopeful be solved.

    • It sucks for the sender though they lose a package as the post office mucked it up

  • The sender screwed up, so they should be helping you fix it.
