What Are Some Best Wireless Security Cameras with Local Storage under $1000

Looking to upgrade our current wired security cameras from Swann which are pretty crapy and looking for some best wireless security cameras with local storage(no cloud/online) under $1000. If anyone can shed some light from their practical experience that would be great . I was inclining towards the Eufy ones but not sure as I haven’t had any previous experience dealing with them . Looking for something that can do 24/7 recording and live view and doesn’t only work just via motion sensor/thing.

How many cameras? Do you want local storage on the cameras or local storage on premise ( ie not cloud)? Also how does the current camera connected? Where do they get their power from? If it's POE then don't convert to wireless as the best cameras normally run on POE.

    • Currently have 8 cameras, yes I would like local storage on the premises..all the current cameras are connected via cat cable and they are getting power from the storage box(HD) 1Tb that came along with the cameras .

Unless it's impossible to get to I wouldn't bother with wireless cameras. Hardwired via CAT cable is the way to go and anything other than Swann will be an improvement

Have got reolink, and netgear arlo cameras…. Both are fine, but reolink are cheaper, and don't require a 'base station'.
No 'local' storage on reolink, (other than in the camera, but a cloud subscription is not that expensive ($35 us per year from memory, for up to 5 cameras). I've been happy with them. Can also add solar panels meaning they stay charged up (depending on use)

    • Should also point out that both these are activated by movement…. not 'always on'

    • Thanks for your input mate .. thanks Could you please share the link for the reo cameras that’s you using ..cheers

        They're on Amazon.com.au under reolink
I have a couple of the Argus Eco with Solar Panels, Argus 2 with Solar Panel, and a reolink 'go', which runs via solar and uses a sim card, so can be put anywhere there is a mobile signal.
'Official' website is here https://reolink.com/ however, they are always doing specials on Amazon

If money is no issue and you are after the best performing and most reliable security camera setup for a home and also considering the fact you already have Ethernet to the existing cameras this is what you would want to do.

Most if not all pure wireless cameras will start recording only when it detects movement in order to preserve battery and POE wired cameras are always much better than any wireless camera so if I were you I'd use the existing CAT cables for POE and get wired cameras and pair with a QNAP or Synology NAS running their native surveillance Apps. With a 2 bay NAS + POE unmanaged switch + 8 x POE Cameras from Hik or Dahua you will be able to do this for a bit over your budget if you are willing to DIY.

  • I'm pretty sure there no 24/7 recording wireless security camera systems. They're all motion activated as otherwise they run out of battery too quickly. Regardless if you already have Ethernet cables to your camera locations you'll get a more reliable connection and never have to deal with changing batteries by using the existing wiring.

I recommend the ReoLink POE system. They have good apps, local NVR recording and cloud support if you want it. I'd get the new AI motion detection cameras and NVR not the older cameras as the older cameras motion detection is kinda useless as it activates whenever the sun goes behind clouds.

    • yes I've got the older ones and they give me a morning wake up call when they switch from night vision infra red mode to day time colour mode as the sun hits each camera - it sets off the motion detection - trying to figure out how to adjust to avoid that.
