I'm Looking for a New Panel Heater for a Small Bedroom. Focus on Quality and Efficiency

I've got a few Noirot panel heaters for the kids bedrooms, but this is for my study so kind of hoping to spend a bit less than Noirot money on myself. Maybe $100 - $150 or thereabouts?

Pretty keen to avoid the really low end stuff as have found previous buys from Kmart etc have broken and gone to landfill far too quickly. Prefer to spend a bit more for something that'll work for a while.

  • I can vouch for avoiding low end stuff,I purchased a glass front 2000w from Kogan which was the worst heater I've ever used. Same story (dealing with Kogan) where I complained to Kogan and the best the could do was send me another. Both ended up in landfill! Friend of mine recommended Noirot (German made) as a brand

    • I got one Kogan ones those too. Junk

just a total side note , generally all heaters use some kind of resistance to generate heat, so all heaters are pretty much as efficient as the other … after all 2000W is 2000W, just make sure you consider your usage.

A radiant (infrared / quartz style) are good for draughts / spot heating, oil radiators are good for smaller non drafty spaces as they act like a thermal store and slowly put heat into the room.

I personally like the feeling of an oil radiator in the bedroom left on to keep the room warm and cosy, but use a quartz bar type heater for my living room that has large windows and is a little drafty.

cheap oil radiators seem to last almost forever as the only thing to go wrong is the thermostat which is unlikely.

its a shame so much does end up in landfill but even a lot of the high end stuff isn't really "made to last" just designed to last the warranty period…

    good luck with your quest

I'm just going to leave this here.

    • Focus more on improving insulation in the room. Book shelves, good blinds, hanging paintings, etc all helps

      • wth, hanging painting is insulation?

yes, if the painting you choose is a large sheet of R4 rockwool

    • A great comment from the video argues that the cheaper space heaters are better at heating/more efficient because they are more likely to cause a fire.

    • Thanks - wish he got to his point more quickly, but that's Youtubers for you. I'm in a soundproof studio, so it's very well insulated by design.

  • I bought a Goldair Ceramic Heater for $70ish and DeLonghi HCX3220FTS for $240ish last year as they topped the choice results for their categories.

Both are decent. The DeLonghi is a lot better, my online gripe being the timer is mechanical so you can hear it ticking around very softly if it is near your bed.
