Best 5G Plans/Offers/Bundles Telstra and Optus

Hi all,

Am I the only one that can't find details (prices, hardware, data inclusion) for Telstra's 5G bundle, or 5G home internet plan?

https://www.telstra.com.au/5g

I checked Optus and they don't have coverage in my area, but I would be interested to see how they compare (or don't?), I tried looking on Whirlpool as well and can't find anything.

Thanks in advance!

  • Firstly, There’s no “5G bundle” and there is a “5G home Internet” for people that are in an FTTN area and get below a certain speed, it’s offered to them

    • Can you please elaborate on what you mean by "offered to them"?

Does that mean "normal" customers can not buy a "5G home internet" plan without being deemed eligible? If so what is the criteria?

I just looked at the 5G map and saw I am in an area with coverage and prefer 5G than NBN as my home internet option.

There’s a product called Telstra 5G Home Internet (also called Airwaves). Basically, if a customer has shit nbn speeds (there’s a minimum speeds, from memory it was something like in the 30’s Mbps on a 50Mbps plan) they can opt to instead go for the 5G Home.

There’s a couple of things though, no landline. Can’t move the device to another location as it’s geolocked (you’ll be capped). You need to see if your address meets the service qualifications though, as not everyone can get it

There IS also a 5G mobile broadband, which can be used at home

You are trying to compare a Ford V Holden (okay showing my age and go back a few years). They both sell cars and both will take the family on a holiday if you get the right car, but which one.

Basically you cannot get Optus at home, so you are going to be stuck with Telstra until Optus install & enable %g on the tower nearest you.

Be aware that 5G does NOT like anything between you and the tower, so you need to find the Telstra tower with 5G that you will be connected to and if you cannot see it from any of your windows then IMHO give up on a simple install. If you go onto your roof see if you can find the tower and if you can then you will need an external 5G antenna.

For more info and better responses head on over to whirlpool https://forums.whirlpool.net.au/ and see what you can find.
