Is it possible to pay with a gift card and receive a shopback cashback?

Hi guys,

Just wondering if it's possible to pay for a purchase using a gift card and receive a cashback with shopback or cash rewards?

The reason I ask is that I paid for a BCF purchase with a gift card but the shopback chrome extension didn't recognise/confirm that the sale was tracked (which usually happens) when I completed the transaction.

Depends on store. Check their terms. Ebay yes. BWS no

Thanks mate. I updated the question specific to BCF.

🤦‍♂️ Go check the terms and conditions or just lodge a case with SB if you CBF reading them…why are you wasting everyone's time?

You're the one wasting your time by feeling the need to respond if you don't want to. It's a valid forum question.

@dmbminaret: They're wasting their own time posting it, people's time reading and responding (who might not even give the correct answer).

I disagree it's a valid forum question…it's question one should take up directly with SB, ultimately they're specifically asking if a transaction they've done was valid.

Not true. I was asking if shopback/cash rewards cashbacks are generally honoured/validated if paying with gift cards. I used an example to better illustrate my question. Not only are you having a difficult time with comprehension but also recognising valid use cases for forums.

@gyrex: What does this mean then??? There is no indication they are examples…get your story straight!

                And

I tried this but when I successfully made payment, I wasn't presented with the usual shopback notification that a cashback had been registered.

Um no, the use cases for the forums are only car accidents and traffic infringements. 😜

I added that example after I posted my question to better illustrate it. You can see my reply in the first post. Either way, I think you're being a little harsh when I'm trying to understand if anyone has any experience with this.

Agreed. My favourite topics are the "Help! I don't have comprehensive insurance…."

I was using my BCF transactions as an example but I was interested in whether, generally, the cashbacks are honoured for gift card purchases. It appears they are since my shopback account has been updated with my purchase.

I ask because I bought a BCF gift card for the amount with a 9% discount and doubled up with a shopback cashback of 8% - pretty decent savings which I didn't realise was possible until now and could possibly be applicable to other stores.

eg. Add $100 worth of goods into your BCF cart. Buy $100 gift card for $91 (9% discount) from Suncorp. Turn on shopback cashback during checkout and you're getting $8 cashback on the $100 purchase. Total savings of $17 or 17%.

Looks too good to be true so I'll wait until I actually get my cashback to see if this actually works or not.

  • i think ebay is ok, they even promote "further saving" during some special shopback promotion. obviously means we buy discounted gc from their site first then use it.
but my question. will the cashback % is based on the total original purchase price or just from the amount that we pay with cash/credit card/paypal ?

  • I think OPs issue may be questioned like this:

How do I get cashback if after paying with giftcard, the final transaction is actually lesser amount.

I've had this exact same issue where if using a credit or something, it reduces the purchase amount rather than being a payment method.

Thanks for your response mate. I was actually wondering if you're eligible to redeem cashback if using gift cards to make a payment.

eg. if I buy some camping chairs from BCF online for $100 and use a $100 BCF gift card to make a payment whilst also enabling the shopback chrome extension, will shopback register the purchase as being valid for cashback?

I tried this but when I successfully made payment, I wasn't presented with the usual shopback notification that a cashback had been registered.

  • It's been over 12hrs since this post. Have you found a reliable answer?

    • My purchase eventually appeared on my shopback account so it appears it works.
