Deal Upvote Button on Front Page and Deal Page Buggy

Whenever I press the upvote button on any deals on the front page, it doesn't reflect the "upvoted" state immediately.
I have to click and go into the specific deal page to see the upvoted state. Sometimes it doesn't even get upvoted and the button inside is also buggy.
Tested this on Chrome, Edge, and Brave on Windows 10. Adblock disabled.
Can't see anything on the console after pressing the upvote button, were there code changes on the server end?
Is it just me? Only noticed this in the past week.

I've had this for a while now, but not everytime.

I'd say around 4/10 times this happens.

Happens to me occasionally also. I'm only ever on Firefox and Android 10/11

I just upvoted a few deals on front page, and it shows upvoted state immediately. However, I had this problem a few months ago, when the Ozbargain servers were having issues.

  • There's quite a bit of working behind "voting" on a deal — lots of checks in the backend, and during busy time it could take a few seconds. Initially we opt to update the current webpage (just adding +1 to the existing vote count), however sometimes we need to display error messages (unable to vote due to sockpuppeting detection for example) so the webpage does not get updated until a response comes back from the server.

However judging from the server load over the last couple of months I don't think it's the backend issue though. We'll continue to investigate.

    • Thanks for replying scotty.
The only thing I can add is that if I keep clicking the upvote button (i.e. spamming out of frustrations that it doesn't get upvoted) and then when I refresh the page, sometimes the webpage goes blank with a little message saying about resource overload or something.
I didn't take a screenshot and like always, when I want to get that error page today, I can't reproduce it 😂
