  • Serious question- Are any of these “el-cheapo” games actually worth the price u pay?

    • +7

Bastion is a little old, originally released 10 years ago. Its definitely good though. Transistor has good reviews, this will be the first time I've played it though.

    • +1

Bastion and Transistor are fantastic games, most of the other el-cheapo games, probably not worth your time and money.

    • +2

OTOH I thought Bastion was dullsville. It's one of the early indie games with street cred tho so everyone raves about it.

      However, hades is good.

Transistor I'm looking forward to trying.

      Same developer.

They are no brainer purchases at these prices.

      • +4

Agreed that Bastion was kind of boring, especially for an ARPG. People apparently loved the story but I thought it was a bit pretentious.

I couldn't get past the first 20 minutes of Transistor because of how annoying the talking sword was. Whose idea was it to have an Alec Baldwin soundalike narrating what you're doing throughout the entire game?!

Hades is excellent though - one of the best roguelites I've played.

        • +1

Yeah the bastion story was dull, cliched, predictable and conceited.

BUT if they didn't make bastion they would never have made Hades. Which is such a great game. So i don't mind having paid for bastion lol.

      • +2

Yeah I also thought Bastion was quite boring. Stoped playing after the first level or two. Hades is exceptionally good. Haven't played Transistor yet.

      • I didn’t think that much of Bastion, and I'm afraid I thought even less of Transistor. Your tastes may differ.

    • +2

Limbo for $3 is an absolute bargain!

    • These two games are great.

    • Transistor is fantastic. The story, the music, the gameplay. Definitely worth it.

  • +2

Transistor & Bastion are one of the best indie games ever I've played. Totally bargain value for top quality indie games! Worth buying at both prices. Same developer of Hades.

Just bought Katana Zero onsale for $13.50.
Any other great games in this sale you guys can recommend snapping up?

      yo, try these ones:

Blasphemous - Metroidvania type of games with souls like difficulty $15 from $37.50
      https://ec.nintendo.com/AU/en/titles/70010000007281

This War of Mine - survival type game $12 from $60

      https://ec.nintendo.com/AU/en/titles/70010000011030

What is your style of game and genre? maybe i can find more if you tell me what you like. :)

      • Moonlight complete is $12.89. Anyone recommend this?

Also I noticed Limbo $3 and Outlast with Whistleblower DLC $6.69. I’ve finished both games and both fantastic!

        • Not sure about the expansion but this is what you will get:

Moonlighter: Between Dimensions - the expansion that enlarges the main experience by filling current dungeons with new creatures, populating all-new Interdimensional Dungeon with mini-bosses, swarming the adventure with new weapons, armory, shop items, and rings.

      • Thanks so much for this. +1 for the relevant links!
I've played This War of Mine on PC, great experience.
Blasphemous looks intriguing too, but maybe too scary/creepy for my tastes ahah.

Definitely looking into Moonlighter now though.
Have you tried Exit the Gungeon by any chance?
I used to love Enter the Gungeon, wondering if it'll be fun to dive into

        • my friend bought exit the gungeon and he said it was a disappointment. I didn't buy ETG cos he said that.

        • I just checked my game list

          here are some more:

Phoenotopia Awakening - Puzzle platform side scroller $22.50 from $30 - Really recommend this one
          https://ec.nintendo.com/AU/en/titles/70010000034348

          Oxenfree
Death Road to Canada - if you like Enter the Gungeon
Yoku Island Express - pinball adventure game
Sayonara Wild Hearts - Rhythm game
          Towerfall

    • Inside is currently $7.50 (normally $30) https://ec.nintendo.com/AU/en/titles/70010000005803

      Limbo is $3 (normally $15). https://ec.nintendo.com/AU/en/titles/70010000005801

Both are about four hours to finish, and are both highly rated.

    • +1 for Katana Zero. Such a great game. Can praise it enough. Still listen to the soundtrack til this day.

  • +1

Aaah Switch deals. The deals that remind you that you have those games on PS Vita

  • I got both maybe 1-2 years ago on a similar sale.
I thought Bastion was okay, it just never clicked for me fully.
Transistor I thought was fantastic. I enjoyed both the playstyle and story.
Recommend both at the price, as I know many are the reverse of me and prefer Bastion!

    • Bastion looks the purdiest

  • I really enjoyed Transistor.

  • Thanks for the link, I downloaded the original DOOM for Switch for $3:72

  • +1

Transistor is one of the handful of games I've played twice. I guess as I had no idea wtf was happening the first time.

    Well worth a fiver.

  • +1

Lego City Undercover is a good sandbox game, good to keep the kids occupied particularly if you think that GTA V might not be appropriate for them.

Spiritfarer is also at its cheapest price. Stunning game but its shocking that they still havent resolved the bugs by now.

Hades also having its usual 20% off I see.

  • +1

    SteamWorld Heist is good.

  • WonderBoy is $7 omg I played the original on the master system back when I was a kid every day!
