Replace Baton Lights with Downlights

Hi,

Does anyone know approximate costs to replace batten lights with downlights in a 25 square home ? 4 bedroom, 2 living areas 1 dining and 2 bathrooms. Current there is one batten in each area but looking to have standard downlights as we see in the newly constructed houses.

Any idea around pricing would be appreciated :)

Thanks

I got downlights supplied and installed for $50 per light, 3 years ago as part of a big job. I would probably expect $60-$80 per light now. For reference, my builder charges $145 per light, which is a rip off.

    • Thanks, how did you fix the hole of the baton light ?

      • If you install the downlight in the same position as batton light it should cover it.

  • Are you planning on replacing 1 central batten light with 4 downlights in each bedroom?

    • Yes, but two of my bedrooms are small so may have less lights.

  • $25 to change a batten light to a down light in 2017. $35 for new area.

    • can you send me deets

  • $50-$60 per downlight, supply and install. If you are in Mel, PM me, I can share the contact of the electrician who installed a few downlights for us last year.

    • Yes, i am in melbourne

  • The average price is $45 - $50.

  • If it is just the quality of light you want to improve you can replace your fluro tubes with LED tubes for better light quality - they still use a bit of electricity due tot he fluro ballasts, but these can be removed and the batten rewired to have a low energy fitting with a quality light.

    • He means a basic bayonet fitting. They call them battens. Confusing when they also call fluro linear tube lights battens.
