PS5 External Hard Drive Options

Per below, the latest PS5 update is allowing external storage devices to be used. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what might be suitable and at a decent price for us?

    FYI:
You still have to transfer game from External drive to Console storage to Play or Update any PS5 game
Games can not be played from the external storage

I am using the external drive i was using for my PS4 games and have had since my PS4.
Its an older Seagate USB 3 drive. so not sure the specs above are required as my drive probably does not meet them but its working fine

    • Same. Just a regular cheap USB 3 device for my PS4 games. When ps5 expansion is available I’ll do that. I have 2 PS5 games (Cold War and Control) and I’m like half full. What a joke.

I've used the following external SSD with my PS5 with success.

I offloaded all my PS4 games to it so I could keep the onboard storage for PS5 games.

An external SSD via USB3 would be ideal. Which one doesn’t really matter as long as compatible. Differences are negligible.

An external HDD would be fine if you prefer larger capacity. There’s no difference except longer load times.

You still cannot play PS5 games off external drives and the internal M.2 expansion hasn’t been activated yet.

I use a Samsung T5 1TB. Performs on par if not slightly better than the internal SSD but only for PS4 games. PS5 games can only be run off the internal SSD but you can store them on an external drive. The PS5 can automatically install PS4 games to an external drive which makes it really convenient and clears up the internal SSD space which is quite limited.
