Any Socks You Can Recommend? Bonds Quality Is Not Cutting It Anymore

Bonds socks are legit crap.
They look and feel good brand new but after 2 uses they become horrible. The quality has changed since they were Made in China.

So I would like to get some recommendations on what socks hold up longer than Bonds.

My profession has me on my feet most of the day in a sporty nature.

Any one vouch for the socks they wear?

Do you wear Kmart socks that are good?

I can vouch for their $6 dollar wool (blend) socks. Most brands last me three months before they thin, develop holes or lose stretch. Kmart's cheap socks have not lost their elasticity, developed holes or even lost their thickness.

Yes other brands are softer (like kathmandu or Aldi), but they don't last and are worst after a few uses.

      • I wear their low cut socks. When new, they are comparable to uniqlo, but the durability for this type of socks I found to be about the same for both brands.

  • Probably not what you're after, but I've found these to be more than adequate with decent shoes. been wearing them for past 2 years with no issues.

    • Honestly, Im happy to give other socks like this a try. Thanks:)

      • I bought some home brand from either target or bigw a few years ago. Was expecting junk, but easily outlasted bonds bought after them. Sorry can't be more specific with what I got, but emphasising that the cheapies aren't necessarily bad.

  • Uniqlo

    • Pretty crap quality compared to socks you get from the famous men's workwear brands in UK, US and AUS.

Sorry couldn’t edit my post as it automatically killed it. Guess the link I used had some sort of referral link

Looks like I was a “bad” boy, not intended but now I feel really bad I hope I won’t be branded for life because of that..

I was posting about Dickies socks. These are available on Amazon

    Search for

Dickies mens Dri-tech Moisture Control Quarter Socks Multipack Socks

Look further down you will see other styles.

I have been wearing these for years and they are most comfortable.

Have a look at the url before posting and see if there is a 'ref' in the middle, then just remove all that and it should display the same product page without the referral link.

    • Will have a look on Amazon. Cheers

    • +1. I got some from Costco, they've been outlasting the Bonds ones I had

  • I get Footlocker socks usually but found some Umbro socks at Rebel sport for a good price. Pretty happy after 1 months use.

    • Thanks for the tip. Will check out Rebel:)

  • Go into BigW, Kmart, Target, Best and Less, Lowes in a big shopping centre and see who has the thickest socks and buy then to try out. Over the years they change thickness and quality.

The Bonds brands where good, but now are made in the same factories as everyone else and is why they can offer 40% off sales every few months a their normal price is high for what they are nowdays. I have also found the same thing has happened with Sheridan and their outlet stores are not cheap anymore.

    • Will do. Thanks!

  • I use under armour socks for running

Makes a thicker and more durable version of the Explorer sock. I get mine at Paddy’s market in Sydney, 3pr for $21. Still wearing weekly some pairs purchased in 2006.

    Underworks All Day Socks

    • Did they get you with the their song? 😁

I bought some Humphrey Law a few weeks ago. Early days yet but I'm pretty happy with them so far. I've also been using Smart Wool for many years and they've been good but if these Humphrey Law ones work out as I think they will, I'll likely be switching mostly to them as they're Aussie owned and made.

    • My first pairs are coming up to 2 years old now…
I have bought pairs since and can't tell which are the old from the new.
      Wear them daily.

We've been wearing Humphrey Law socks for a few years and can vouch for their quality and durability. They are Australian made and our armed forces use them. Not cheap but I would rather get them as they last longer anyway. You can get them on good specials/stack with gift cards from MYER and David Jones.

No really cheap, but you get what you pay for (usually).

Made in Melbourne. The sock style is "fancy" which may not appeal.

  • I like all day socks by underworks but they are pricey and the quality has gone down over the years…
Saw these at Target and they were very similar..
    https://www.target.com.au/p/maxx-3-pack-comfort-socks/619587…
They also wear very similar. Most likely will continue down this path.

  • I work on my feet all day and swear by Ice Breaker. I have about 6 pairs. I usually use their Hike+ light cushion. They are covered under their lifetime guarantee so they will replace it if say holes develop.

Buy a 3-5 pairs. Yes they are pricey initially but being covered under their lifetime guarantee seals the deal for me.

Have worn IB socks for a decade (got a pair on now). And would you believe it, they've lasted this long so far?

      • Nice! I have pairs on rotation to make them last longer, I rotate my work shoes as well and works a treat. I've only made 1 claim so far and it was an easy process.

Darn tough socks, made in USA have a lifetime warranty. I bought about 12 pairs in different styles about 3-4 years ago from massdrop, still in good Nick.
Have no idea about the warranty claim, but apparently they will replace worn out socks, I have a few I want to send back to find out.
They are on Amazon but are very pricey for socks, but you get what you pay for and if the warranty is legit you only need 7 pairs for your whole life? Haha dunno about that…

    Thanks everyone for your recommendations.

Will try a few of the above. Cheers

  • Globe, but only in post Christmas and EOFY sales

    Thorlo for sport.
    Humphrey Law for general life
They both cost a bomb $20+/pair, but they're the most comfortable and long lasting socks for their respective purposes that I've found and I'm super fussy with footwear.

  • Explorer socks from Coles when they are half price. Happens every couple of months. I just go in there and load em up. $7/pair when half price.

G'day, first post long time lurker…. Smartwool have been the best pick for me. If you can find them, they are expensive but worth it.

I had a similar loss of confidence in Explorer socks a couple of years ago and happily discovered these:

Every since Bonds (Pacific Brands - PBG) moved their manufacturing offshore to China their quality has gone way down.

Same with every other former Aussie manufacturer.
As some have suggested may as well go for the Kmart brands.
At least you are not paying top dollar for cheap Chinese made goods.

Target Maxx Performance socks now on Catch.
Come in a 3 pack of Liners, quarter and crew length.
Decent thickness compared to other socks nowadays.

  • It is because the brand side has caused the foundry to reduce the quality of products in order to enhance competitiveness and increase profits. It's not because the quality of China's production is not good, it's because of the good quality things produced in China. The sales here are very expensive.

I browsed some socks on a activewear websites occasionally. Around $ 3-4 per pair. looks cute and high quality. I've tried the hair band, the quality is super good. Maybe worth to try the socks as well.
