New PC Case Not Compatible with Mobo?

Hi all,

I have purchased Phanteks Eclipse P500A Airflow D-RGB (white) and while I was transferring my motherboard etc / connecting to the new case, I notice the RBG cables from Phanteks Eclipse P500A Airflow (called: MB D-RGB-3 pin, D-RBG Fan, SATA cable that's meant to somehow connect to Power supply?) cant find it on my mobo.

The 3 front fans works but the RBG lights attached to the case can not fit/find where I need on my motherboard.

Currently mobo is MSI Z270 SLI PLUS (MS-7A59) with CPU Intel Core i7 7700K Kaby Lake so its a few yrs old but I don't think it's that old :)

Anyway wondering anyone here could shed light if it's defo the motherboard being not compatible and if so - what motherboard should I get that's equivalent to my current parts. I don't want to upgrade my gpu (gtx 1080 ti)/cpu/etc just yet.

Cheers for any advice! :)

The SATA cable connects directly to the power supply (not through the motherboard) so it shouldn't be a compatibility issue with your motherboard.

Your case has a 3 pin 5v ARGB connector(MB D-RGB-3 pin) but your motherboard only has a 12v RGB header (JLED1 - Page 38 of the mobo manual) hence your motherboard does not support ARGB. The LED lighting does not necessarily need this connection as the case has a built-in RGB controller and you can change the lighting modes with the switch on the front panel but if you need to sync the LEDs with the motherboard then you will have to upgrade the mobo to one with ARGB headers.

    • Thank you for the helpful info! didnt know this, thought i was missing some converted cables etc but looks like i defo need to upgrade the mobo

Nothing wrong with that motherboard. Just get one of these and save the coin, https://www.mwave.com.au/product/deepcool-gamer-storm-v-addr…

        • thank you for the link! the only issue is in the picture with SATA 5V - (sorry for noob question) but with that, in the case instructions it said to connect it to the power supply, my power supply doesnt have that sort of matching connection from what i could see - unless its connected to the converter you linked up?

@HereYeeHereYee: The SATA 5V connector is the same one you use to power your hard disks and CD/DVD/Blu-Ray drives. You will definitely have them.

So you plug a SATA power cable to the case LED connector, and another to the converter I linked. Then you plug the converter to the 12V RGB on the motherboard, and you plug the case RGB cable to the connector on the plug labelled GDV.

            • @AdosHouse: Thank you - i will let you know how I go (purchased the item you linked) :D

  • Email the motherboard's manufacturer and tell them your story, they will surely help you

    • and wait a month for a template response? lol sorry - i find fellow ozb/forum people helping out each other useful and appreciated :)

      • I emailed someone at Antec last night about their DF700 Flux case & I got a response in a few hours, so there
