    For your own health (and better-tasting food) consider cast iron. You can look up DuPont lawsuits and so forth if you're feeling bored. Plus learn more about how bad these things are for the environment and our bodies.

      I've actually got a Lodge 28cm cast iron fry pan. LOVE it.
      But it's way too heavy for the Mrs to use unfortunately. She hasn't got the wrist strength to lift it and pour one handed, so every year or two we buy new Tefal's when they start to show signs of wear. I'm wary of the non-stick concerns as well… but I reckon if you don't keep using it when you can see the surface is wearing, then it's a calculated risk.

      This particular pan is the one we go for time after time. It gets heavy use and is still light enough for a lighter framed person to use on induction. Hard to find a lightweight pan that's induction capable and of decent brand at this price point.

        You can buy a carbon steel pan. Its what most chefs use and is what most woks are made of.
        Carbon steel is lightweight but can be used with high heat as there is no coating. They are also easier to season than the lodges as the surface is generally already smooth.

        • My comment got unpublished for some reason. You can find a few kick starter projects on Indiegogo for light weight cast iron pans. The Stur one looks interesting to me but obviously at a different price point to this.

    • Horses for courses. Cast iron has its uses too. Have both.

      The health thing is BS. Teflon itself is harmless, but if overheated (smoke temp) can emit tiny quantities of bad chemicals.
      But cooking food at that temp creates even more carcinogens. The solution is simple.

      • I think quality plays a part too, this pan is decent quality.

        If you look at the statistics in the US, it's like 99% of the population has forever chemicals in their bloodstream and I bet one of the causes is crap non stick pans. Most likely in my bloodstream too I'd bet.

        Also what do you mean by smoke temp? That is normally specific to the oil you are using, not the pan itself.

        I've used these pans to cook steaks but apparently that's too high of a temp, it all depends on who you ask or what you read.

          It depends how you like your steak.
          Personally, I use a steel pan to cook steak, so I can get it extra hot without worrying.

      I've got a range of Lodge cast-iron and Tefal non-stick pans, and whilst I agree with the theory of cast-iron pans, I admit that it's the Tefal which spends most time on my hob.

      So long as you don't cook at excessive temperatures and discard of pans once any teflon/titanium coating starts flaking or showing signs of damage, I think you'll be pretty safe. Better yet, don't get the cheap and nasty pans and stick to decent quality like the Tefal Intuition, Everest, Gourmet or above and you'll seldom witness any shedding on a well-maintained pan. Which basically amounts to a quick wipe-out taking a fraction of the time it takes me to season and maintain my cast-iron pans and griddles.

        I agree. I get very good life out of my tefal non stick cookware. It amazes me to read in so many of these posts that people get less than 24 months from a pan.

    Better yet, get the Tefal Everest range which are better rated and reviewed, currently half price from Amazon. 24cm @ $34.30, 28cm @ $39.20 and my personal favourite, the ball-tearing good, huge 32cm @ $48.30 delivered with Prime. Handles all hobs including induction, but has Titanium Mineralia coating with supposed superior non-stick properties and twice the rated lifespan of the Titanium coating of the Intuition range, allegedly. Also has soft plastic handle rather than metal of the Intuition range, which gets better reviews for comfort, but the metal can handle hotter temps in oven if that is your thing. Person preference I guess.

      Not at all, thanks for posting the info! I saw the Everest but didn't like how the handle was plastic (prefer metal as it handles higher oven temps and better durability) and didn't have the bolts coming through to the other side of the pan where it joins. All the 'good pans' seem to have these types of handles and it makes sense to me. I think I'm still sticking with my one, but each to their own :). And no offence taken with your post, thanks for taking the time to post it! (made me second guess myself)

        I share your thoughts on the preference for metal handles, even if Choice and GoodHousekeeping deduct points for them in their reviews. I actually have the Tefal Everest and Gourmet pans and the latter is near identical to the Intuition range, albeit both of the former are made in France rather than China as I believe the Intuition range is. I prefer the Gourmet handle marginally, but the size and coating of the Everest wins it on points for me. Also, they do a 25cm pancake/omelette pan in the Everest which isn't available in the Intuition or Gourmet range and it's my second-most used pan of all, also currently half price at $34.30 at www.amazon.com.au/Tefal-Everest-Pancake-Aluminium-Effect/dp/….

        Also noteworthy for anyone seeking best possible value, is the 11 piece Tefal Daily Cook set from Spotlight as listed below for $49.40 after using an account with one of the $10 off codes listed in the thread. It's not to the quality of the Intuition, Gourmet or Everest range, but for the price is a great starter or spare set.

    • wondering what is the bottom diameter of the 32cm everest? my induction top is about 21cm, not sure if that's too small for the pan. I'd like the 32cm over the 28. can not find the detail anywhere

      • Sorry - I'm not at the house with the pan tonight, so can't check for you.

        From memory, I'd estimate each wall of the Everest 32cm pan spans around 5-6cm width, leaving approx. 20-22cm for the baseplate. Sounds like a pretty good match, albeit having an extra centimeter or two under or overhang won't kill it. I use mine on my second largest hob often which is only around 18cm and don't notice any problems with even heat transfer compared to the bigger one which is an inch or so bigger.

        • i went to target and checked the 32cm, the base diam is more like 25ish, i think i'd better go with a 28. plus the 32 is a little heavy, my wife may have trouble handling it.

    • The Daily Cook is not even in the same ballbark as the Intuition pan, but it is undoubtedly a great price for a decent starter set. Have got one on order myself.

        Yes, not the same, Daily Cook has 10 years warranty and Intuition - 5.

        Now try explain how Intuition is a better quality.

        • Ha! I thought both were 10 year warranties, but at any rate, duration of warranty is far from the only barometer of quality.

          I can't speak first hand, since I currently own neither. Being Chinese made, I'm sure there'll be some potential question marks over QA of both. The Daily Cook range is one of their entry level sets and as an owner of many Tefals over the years, I know that build quality and the non-stick coating span a huge range of quality and consistency across the brand, and are what separates the wheat from the chaff.

          But when ordering my set of Daily Cook's, I noted with some skepticism, the 2.3 star rating from it's current owners, replete with common tales of loosening handles, peeling coating and warping pans. Let's hope they all remembered to register for their warranties…

            @UncleRico: From what I see on Tefal site Daily Cook pans are actually have better coating then Intuition, although they can't go into oven which is probably not that bad thing as teflon does not belong there. In either case they both have 2 years warranty on coating, so all that 10 vs 5 years warranty is only relevant to stainless steel pans.
