  • Ok for price for 14' screen and 2 kg but id rather get i7 from centrecom for 100$ more for beter performance

    • If you can provide a link that would be great. I would like it to have USB 3.0 ports, 8 Gb ram and a dedicated video card.

I'm still thinking if I should get the DSE one.

        • The one you linked to is a better spec'd pc yes, but this one is a lot smaller in size, and has awesome quality speakers in there too. Remember you pay more for smaller sized laptops. The HP also looks way better ;-)

If you want a smaller laptop the DM4 is the way to go for this price, otherwise yes the hp dv6 is a great laptop but at the cost of being much larger and heavier.

the dv6 have beats too.. which isn't even that good. they're just marketed like a plague to make people think they're even somewhat better than substandard

        • +1

          ^^this

I rather buy dedicated headphones with a fiio amp than listen to markting bullcr@p about how good the beats are compared to others

beats is one of those brands that are purely a brand. There is no r&d no technical expertise, 100% pure marketing.

Pretty soon they wouldnt even have a production partner at all after spilting from Monster.

(If you didnt know who monster is, they are the mob thath brings you the clearest and vivid 1s and 0s.)

  • I've just ordered a Lenovo IdeaPad Z570 - $650 (can be had cheaper elsewhere) and then $100 cash back = $550. Seemed decent for the price.

Tempting - prob. not the best specs, but I would definitely get one if audio is important to you and you don't intend on hooking up speakers - I had a HP Beats laptop for a few months (gave it to my dad after) and the sound performance craps all over any other laptop I've had. I only realised how much I missed the audio after I swapped the computer (until I got a lapdesk with speakers in it).

    • "Beats" is only a software solution AKA Equalizer. Do not buy this laptop for the audio quality. Dr Dre has no idea what quality audio is. If you think there is a difference, it's just a placebo, You could do the same on any laptop with the right EQ settings.

Well whatever you think it is, the sound performance is much better, playing some rock songs on it sounded pretty good compared to most of the other laptops I have looked at in this price range. Beats may enforce heavy bass into the sound, although you would still need good speakers to handle it. Quality audio from a laptop is silly to justify, but if this sounds far better than most other laptops then it is something worth noting.

turn beats effects off and you'll see in the tone controls of windows volume properties that it automatically puts the bass level to the lowest position.

there is one thing that is good about it though.. and that is it enables the front speakers on my dv6.

other than that.. it just makes it louder.. my MSI EX625's 2.1 speakers (including sub) shits all over these "zomg it's Beats!!"

and lol.. the dv6's of late no longer have optical digital output.. even though they have 2 headphone jacks too. gosh whatta fail.

      • Have you actually used a Beats laptop?

Don't get me wrong, I'm not here to compare any laptop speakers (Beats included) to proper 2.1 or 5.1 speakers, and also not here to talk about the quality of Beats headphones (which is a separate discussion entirely). Having said that, I put my Toshiba laptop (L650D) against my dad's HP Beats laptop (Envy 15-1112TX I5), playing the same movie and NBA games, and the difference in sound quality from the laptop speakers were incredible.

        • +1

if you are using your laptop speakers to watch a movie, you're doing it wrong.
What is wrong with just normal headphones which are clearer than any in built laptop speakers

  • another thing… this laptop's gfx card is pretty meh… ATI HD 7470M =\

  • ATI Radeon HD 6770M 1GB GDDR5 Graphics good card?

    • yes very

Anyone point out a better 14" laptop for the price? Would have to be similar dimensions as this has the smaller chasis (the whole 14" screen in a 13.3" chasis claim). With dedicated graphics and unique looks.

  • Good timing. Saw this on Facebook this morning, and got JB Hifi in Brisbane (underground one) to price match it.
