Better Option for Living Room - Samsung Q80T 85' | Sony X9000H 85' | Sony X9500H 75'

Need help fellow OzBs, looking to get a new TV for living area (no theater alas!) in new house. Few considerations below:

1) Viewing distance 4.5-5m
2) Mostly movies/netflix, NO GAMING
3) To be wall mounted
4) Living room has a lot of windows but they will have blackout blinds and sheer curtains.

My first choice would have been X9500H but it doesn't come in 85' so not sure what to do. Is compromising 10' worth the picture quality for X9500H? Please help decide. TIA!!

rtngs.com is good in this arena. I personally am on the X9500H, I currently only have a 55 though so 75 is a good jump for me.

    • Yes got to these options by reading rtings and HDTV test, not sure if it's worth compromising 10' to get X9500H though

  • IMO 10ā€ does make a difference. Hence for that reason only Iā€™d suggest Samsung Q80T.
The other thing to consider is viewing angle. Sony has better viewing angle than Samsung.
If you are ok with 75ā€ TV then I would recommend new Samsung neo series QN85A. From the specifications it looks very promising.

    • Thanks mate, I was thinking about QN85A too but it would be difficult to find good deals on this years models.

  • I got a Q80T 75' and it is fantastic i have heard good things about the Sony X9000H but from my experience the Q80 is a brilliant TV

    • Thanks mate, have you noticed any DSE on your panel as this was a common complaint about Q80T panels. Cheers

      • I currently have a 65" Q80T, have not noticed any DSE.

        • Perfect, thank you so much!!

  • Something to consider at 85" and 4.5m viewing distance is off axis response. Basically colour shift if you are viewing the screen to the left or to the right. When you have a TV that large you might see colour shift on the far top corner when laying down on a couch. This is worse if you sit closer of if you have seats to the side.

Depending on your room and where you intend for your head to be, you might be better off going for the TV with the best off axis response over the best looking when directly in front.

    • ah, well another thing to look into. What will your recommendation be - Q80T ???

      • Go to the store and pick the one you like the most.

There will be a little bit of frustration with the 'smart' features, so take the time to read the manual while playing and don't be disappointed if a smart feature won't work like you expect.

        • I was at Jb HiFi earlier and saw the TVs in action. You were right, it made a huge difference. Also, everything apart from LG OLEDs looked pale in front of Samsung Neo QLEDs (seriously considering QN85A now).

          • @go2force: The problem I have seen with quantum dot's is that their colours are too precise and can have very visible banding on static or slow moving non hdr images.

Every tech has it's downsides at the moment. Just pick the one you like the best.

            • @This Guy: Yes could be, let's see. Thanks for your inputs.

  • Yes planning to go and see all TVs in person, thank you so much for the inputs. Cheers

  • 4.5m jesus. You need bigger than 85.
    Or move closer.

    • Yes probably, was at JB HiFi earlier and 75' definitely felt smaller. So, going with 85' most likely.

  • Where is Samsung Q80T 85' in stock?

    • Naah, not 85 in stock

      • So what have you decided on? I'm in a similar boat and curious.

  • To be honest, QN85A blew me away but the 85' is like $6,495 so out of budget for me. I have made up my mind that I will be going for 85', so it's between Q80T and X900H. I don't have a very dark room so Q80T might be a better option for me but I will pick any of these once the next sale is in.

    • As per my previous comment, I dont' know anywhere that sells the Q80T 85' anymore because I think they've all sold out. Let me know if you know otherwise.

X900H has narrow viewing angles which isn't good for me, so I'm feeling like I'm either stuck with the QN85A or wait till other models are released.

I agree QN85 is too expensive at the moment but the price will drop somewhat. TGG already had a 15% off sale recently which made it 5,250ish.
