Samsung So-Dimm RAM Upgrade for Lenovo Laptop - Different RAMs Compatibility

Sorry I'm a noob looking for some information on the RAM modules.

I have a Lenovo L390 Yoga laptop that came with Samsung M471A5244CB0-CTD RAM module (4GB). I am looking to upgrade the RAM by adding another 4GB module.

I might be able to get hold of another RAM module from a friend but it's slightly different model : Samsung M471A5143SB1-CRC and wondering if this would be compatible and whether they both would support dual channel mode?

    M471A5244CB0-CTD - Max Speed 2666

    M471A5143SB1-CRC - Max Speed 2400

What is your CPU's max RAM speed ? better to match currently running RAM speed and timings as possible.

P.S. If it is free, just plug it :D I have 4*4GB cards with different speeds/timings in dual channel without any issues. Always better to have more RAM.

    • Thank you, yeah will give it a try. :)

Both will ok in dual-channel mode @ 2400MHz.

Your ram is 2666MHz, whilst your friends stick is 2400MHZ.

When installed in the same system both will operate at the lowest common speed, so your stick will reduce speed to 2400 to match the speed of the other stick and run ok.

I wouldn't be worried about performance loss as:

    • Dual-channel config will gain a small % of performance.
    • Increasing Ram from 4 to 8GB's will provide additional overall performance (less reliance on virtual memory)

Naturally it's best to find another 2666MHz stick, but if you're getting the 2400 for little to no $, then it's perfectly fine for use.

    • Thank you, yeah I am getting it for free so will give it shot.
