Do You Get Credit Card Benefits (Purchase Security, Extended Warranty) When Paying Using "Buy Now Pay Later" Services?

Hi guys,

Do you get credit card benefits such as purchase security protection and extended warranty when paying for something using "buy now pay later" services such as Zip Pay or Afterpay?

Looking at getting an expensive gift for my partner, but if she sees the full charge on the statement then there won't be much of a surprise..

Thanks

  • Can you get someone else to buy it for you and you pay them back if you don’t want your partner looking at your statements?

    • I really want the extended warranty, and I don't want to have some keep their credit card for 3 years because of that..

    Probably no.

  • What did your credit card company say when you asked them?

    • I haven't - ANZ is useless on the weekends and I had to make the purchase today

  • I'd say a hard no, but what if you paid the installments with your credit card???

I notice on mine the extended warranty (aka insurance) only applies if you pay in one instalment.

    • I think ANZ's T's&C's only mention that the item should be fully charged to the CC, no mention if single or multiple transactions

      • Mine is Westpac Altitude

  • I'm surprised that no-one can say for sure - there has been a lot of deals for Afterpay and Latitude pay recently but looks like no-one considers the free extended warranty when making purchase ;)

Probably because by the time the normal warranty expires, a new model would have come out and no one wants the old one repaired?
