  • I can't get the checkout to load?

      Hughsey, you got a problem.

      • I managed to get it through in the end lol

I find Kathmandu clothing material wears out quickly with more washing cycle. Does anyone get this?

    • +2

same here. Wore out after 4 months of using.

      • +6

Good marketing, ridiculously expensive and slashes to half price. Poor quality.

        • +2

I haven't had an issue with the quality or technology of the garments. They're designed and marketed as adventure wear and for their intended use they perform really well, I've lived in their tops for literally over a week straight while backpacking and they are excellent, as advised no smells and temperature regulation range is high allowing me to carry less items. They're not meant to be on standard rotation through your wardrobe to be worn and washed dozens of times, go to big w for that or handwash. It's like buying lace and complaining it's delicate.

        • +1

I agree. The only good thing about the store is the name, pretty much everything they sell is extremely overpriced and poor quality.

          • @UberIsCool: DUDE, Never buy Kathmandu on normal price. I only buy if it's at least 50% off. Preferably more.

Put it on gentle wash cycle your clothes will last a lot longer .

    • +5

      Don't wash, last even longer

      • +15

        Don’t wear, last forever

        • +3

          You are the perfect nudist

        • Don’t buy.

    • Lol so do it specifically for Kathmandu? It shouldn't be that way

    • +1

Don’t buy and it lasts forever!

      • Funny how Rosace got negged above for the same sentiment.

Remember to check for any vouchers kathmandu has sent you! I managed to find 2 vouchers, one birthday and one we miss you voucher. They regularly send our random vouchers every year so don’t forget to check all your emails for it. The vouchers can be stacked during checkout to a max of 2! So be sure to get some free thermals

    • Damn I forgot and gave them disposable email addy.

  • +1

cheers, normally size L in tshirts so got XL because thermals are generally snug and i prefer loose fit. will report back if that was a yuuge mistake

    • +1

I used to work at kathmandu and the motion thermals are EXTREMELY SMALL, most people have to go up two sizes but some get away with just one.

  • Is the size guide accurate?

    • Go up one size at At LEAST, they’re very very tight especially for women. I worked at KMD.

      • based on the size guide I am an XS as the measurement of chest / waist / hips are exactly what my actual body measurements are (they mention measurements are for actual body measurement not garment)..

In that case, do I go for S (knowing that XS is exact fit for me?) or is M a better choice as some have said they went up 2 sizes.

These are not even wool, not worth it, also Kathmandu known for overpriced gear to justify reduced prices, ACCC fined them years ago

    • +1

Where can you get merino base layer for this price?

      • Aldi's merino $30 when they have them. They were warm but I found them itchy.

      • +1

Best and Less sometimes have them, Catch, other places online, easy to Google it.

    • Well yeah it's $10, even at $69 wouldn't guarantee it's wool from other brands either. As a standalone it's still a deal.

  • I was gonna ask how they compare to Uniqlo Heattech? They're pretty think, but do a decent job.

    • Yes, Uniqlo heat tech is really great. Especially if you pair thermals with their pants and socks, will keep you warm.
Only thing is don't get the ultra tech, I assume that's designed for Japanese winters not for Oz winters.

    I cant stand long sleeve.

Thought I’d give some insight on this since I actually know a decent amount! I worked at KMD for a while as a manager. I got some myself for Japan and they worked great, they have ion properties so you can wear them for an entire week before they start to smell.

They’re quite tight fitting so go up one side at LEAST. Women’s tend to be tight around the arms and chest.

There is a better sale on once or twice a year around the winter sale where the thermals are buy 1 get 2 free.

Even though I’ve left and I do not think the company is very good to its employees, I still think these thermals are great. They’re made for active wear so they wick moisture and stop you from smelling.

'Was browsing for thermals for winter night paddling'

    That's a paddlin'.

  • I'll just leave this here if you're into conscious consumerism…

    Another scumbag company.

    https://thenewdaily.com.au/finance/finance-news/2021/03/24/k…

    • The article doesn't mention they did anything wrong nor did they and the government obviously agrees as they aren't asking for it back, eligibility isn't retrospectively based on future profits. KMD were eligible so claimed and received the payment. What about that makes them a scumbag, as you put it? Government sets the rules and they were followed.

Depends what you define as wrong/ethical… Just because it's legal doesn't mean it's not wrong.
Is taking taxpayer-funded money the right thing to do when you've made record profits.
And then you have companies like Dominoes paying it back. Let that sink in, Dominoes had the conscience to pay the money back.

a few weeks back they had a decent deal on thermal shirts, i grabbed a few as i was freezing during my morning runs
gotta say i didnt think the light & thin material would do much but i was so wrong. does an amazing job at retaining heat and creating a barrier for the cold

  • Ive found Uniqlo thermals to be well priced and do a good job, picked up a bunch in a sale years ago and am not needing more for awhile.

  • is members only price just available online? or can I buy it instore at this price?

    • Can be bought in-store and online. Just requires Summit Membership

  • Great deal, grabbed a handful for winter kayaking. Thanks OP!

  • Thanks OP

  • Went to DFO Moorabbin, and they had 2 for $35 sale for all 'clearance' last season stock on the KMDMotion range (top and leggings)
Bought 2 in conjunction with the $20 voucher.

    https://imgur.com/a/p3JuKQ9

I asked the workers what the difference was between last season and this season's stock, and they said only in the visual design.
Quite a few in stock when I was there (admittedly last Friday though…)
