The Age Newspaper 52 Weeks Delivered: 85% off. $59 for 4 Days (Thu-Sun), $99 for 7 Days a Week [RENEWALS only]

340

I am receiving renewal reminders by mail & phone from The Age.

85% off the cover price - a great deal.

Its not on the internet (where they promote much more expensive subscriptions), so you have to phone 13 66 66.

So as well as "yesterday's news today" you get more than your moneys worth of articles, The Green Guide, The Saturday Age, The Sunday Age, etc.

Same as http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/53403 which has "expired".

Happy Reading.

EDIT: Ref # for the $59 offer is 9047 & the ref for the $99 offer is 9054.

Sorry Guys. Apologies. Apologies. Apologies. This is a renewal offer only after all, they say!!!

I'll report myself to the sheriff before they take me away.

I'll check better in future!!!

  • Hi - can you confirm this is a renewal, not a new subscription?

    • +1

As mark3206 says below, its good for new subscribers too (eg. it was only $52pa last Jan when I took the 4 day week option as a new subscriber.)

You don't need the reference numbers but I'll put them on here when I get home.

      • I've called the Age (136666) but the salesperson on the other end (Ben) tells me that the offer is sent to a specific event and I would need to quote it (for example membership to some club or other event). Can you give more specific details in order for me to call The Age back and get this subscription?

        • Same here. The sales guy was asking the same question, whether it is the offer for sporting club or offer thru mail.

SORRY Guys, my wife has left the reminder notice at work, I'll have to get the details tomorrow.

The Age aren't open to take the subs on a Sunday, so I was hoping it didn't matter too much.

  • Is this for new subscriptions? And is there a code or something that we need to supply?

  • +2

There is a comment by mxyzptik against http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/61709 that confirms that it can be obtained for a new subscription

  • Looks like this has expired already.

This campaign is no longer available.

However, we would be delighted to assist you with your subscription. Please phone us on , so that we can assist you.

    • It is available, I'll post the ref nos on here later today.

I subscribed to this last year and just renewed for the same price. Fantastic stories, good investigative articles and excellent additions such as the Green Guide every Thursday.

FWIW, their phone hours on the weekend are 7am-1pm. Just missed them by 10 minutes..

One of the better papers in oz. Pity the deal is only open for Victorian deliveries.

Who would even pay to read ads? Printed news is dead for a reason.

    • +4

Yeah man, who needs to read to get their news these days when Dave Hughes and the gang cover it all at 7PM every night anyway?

Printed news, more like printed poos, amirite?

    • +1

The better newspapers don't just carry news and ads - ads are everywhere … more and more of 'em online :)

Printed news may be dead, newspapers are not (not yet anyway).

People pay for 'papers for lots of reasons, including for the more thoughtful articles.

You know, it can be easier to 'browse' a broadsheet than a computer screen, iPad and always easier than a smartPhone.

I like my papers even though I get most of my news from other sources (don't we all).

I used to love Dave Hughes - how's he going :)

        hi

please post whatever code/reference is required.
I would very much like to subscribe to this offer.

        thanks so much

        • will do, in about an hour.

Good deal for people who actually value information, unlike those who took up that crap Herald Sun offer.

  • theres another offer direct from theage website which isn't as good.. but still… http://intheage.com.au/jansale/

I don't know what game he's playing but looks like mxyzptik has gone to ground, I suggest closing this deal.

    • It has been less than a day, give the guy a break. If the age are running sales that expire that quickly then they don't want sales.

  • Confirmed over the phone: This doesn't apply to the SMH in Sydney.

    Sorry OP.

Only that I rang The Age who told me they have no such renewal offer that cheap. Then when I saw you'd logged in but not followed through on your "in one hour" offer to post the code I suspected maybe you're a spammer.

    No hard feelings I hope.

If you bothered to look at his user profile at his previous deals and comments, you'd see pretty quickly that he's not a spammer.

Also, this link (from the post) shows a previous running of this deal, further suggesting that it is not spam.

Sorry for the delays, my wife's a busy person!

Ref # for the $59 offer is 9047 & the ref for the $99 offer is 9054.

Sorry Guys. Apologies. Apologies. Apologies. I phoned them and they say this is a renewal offer only as some of you have also been told.

I'll report myself to the sheriff before they take me away.

    • I tried calling The Age subscriptions today but was told they could not offer me anything with just the reference number. The sales person on the phone says she would need to look it up and would need more details about the offer I was referring to. Not sure if there are more details you can share apart from the reference number?

  • Bugger…. I'm not someone who buys newspapers, but I would have subscribed for the $99 a year if I could have gotten it. Ah well, back to reading online news for free then :)

  • Nice, thanks for posting this mxyzptik.

My 4 day subscription doesn't expire till March.

Do you or anybody happen to know when this special renewal price expires and/or in that case whether I should renew now or in March?

    gracias ;-)

So has anybody managed to receive this special renewal price?

    • I managed to renew Thu-Sun for $59 on Monday. Although I mentioned I had a code for $59 renewal, they never asked for it.

  • I've just attempted to do this via the IVR. I got a renewal notice for my current offer ($120 for 7 days a week for 26 weeks), and noted on it that on the paper form it had two options, and each had a four digit code; for example mine was 9056 for 26 weeks 7 days a week for $120.01.

There was also another option for a monthly direct debit or quarterly direct debit.

I rang 13 66 66, selected the renew option, and got asked to enter my subscriber number. It then asked me to enter the 4 digit code from my offer that I wanted to accept. I instead entered 9054. It then asked me how much I wanted to pay (which is odd, because I expected it to specify $99.00, but I entered 99.

Long story short, the IVR then said I'd receive confirmation in the mail of my new subscription in two weeks.

I'll report back here when I know for sure whether it has worked, but it does seem like the system allows you to renew and select an offer code.

  • Hello all,

I just joined a private medical insurance company, Mbank, and confirm that they have a member offer for 52 week subsription to The Age for $99 (7 day a week). You will need to quote your member number. I have subscribed and have received the newspaper delivered in the morning.
