TS9 Antenna and Mimo Antenna

Hello, i have recently signed up the Telstra 5G plan that comes with the ZTEMU500. I am getting around 100 Mbps now compare to the 20 Mbps when under 4G+.

As my home address is on the edge of the 4/5G coverage, my modem regardless 4 or 5G will always at the lower download speed.

I have 2 TS9 antenna, does it help if i plug it into the modem? or do i have to pair it up with an external Mimo Antenna to improve the speed?

I am not entirely sure about the whole setup it will be great to pick few skills and knowledge from the experts here. Thank you.

  • I think you are mistaking what TS9 and MIMO mean.

TS9 is a connector type in the same way that there are different power point plug types for AU, US, UK, etc.

MIMO is essentially a technology that works in the same way that a highway allows more cars to travel vs a single lane road.

Can you describe the shape of the antenna you have?

Is the antenna a small antenna or a large antenna?

Yes i am confused on what it does and does it work.

    • +1

In my opinion, those are basically useless.

Are you connected to 5G or 4G when download speeds are at 100Mbps?

If you are connected to 4G, external antennas may help.

If you are connected to 5G, external antennas won't improve speeds on 5G. The modem you are using is not compatible with 5G external antennas. It is only compatible with 4G external antennas. Nevertheless, it is possible that using external 4G antennas may improve your 4G speeds enough that it is faster than your 5G speeds.

To know if 4G external antennas will help go to RFNSA and type in your suburb. Find the nearest telstra tower to your home and tell me what is between you and that tower. Are there large hills, trees or Sky Scrappers?

      • Thanks. The nearest Telstra 5G tower seems to be nearer that I thought. It said 188 meters. Its at 10 o’clock direction from my home address about i felt it is more than 500 meters away. Im living on round level and in between us there are two highway roads and two five to six storeys office buildings.

The nearest Optus 4G tower is even further away. The website said 675 meters away. But i felt it should at least 1km.

Connect to Telstra 5G download speed is 100
Connect to Optus 4G or plus download speed varies as i have multiple lines. It can range from less than 1Mbps to 40Mbps.

        Is it bad?

  • I found that the nearest Telstra tower about 188m from my home has below bands.

    Telstra
    3G
    850MHz
    4GX
    700MHz, 1800MHz, 2100MHz, 2600MHz
    5G
    850MHz, 3500MHz

The next nearest Telstra tower about 675m away has below band.

    5G
    26000MHz

Does it mean if i live near the 26000MHz i will get better download speed?
