Discounted Gift Card for Overseas Purchase vs 28 Degrees

Hi, just say I need to buy a $150 USD item in eBay.com.au from an overseas seller - will I be better off to use a 3% discounted eBay gift card (bought from Suncorp) or using 28 Degrees instead?

  • Is it just about the money? Would 28 degrees offer you buyer protection?

    • If it breaks within a year you can get merchandise protection once you get a repair quote

  • If you're worried about the item and having to return it, neither: do this https://www.paypal.com/au/webapps/mpp/returns

and pay with 28 Degrees on your Paypal account in USD

  • I guess I won't know unless I tried it myself. I purchased USD 172.4 worth of items today. Checking gift card balance before and after (and the exact amount actually displayed in order page) - AUD 219.86 was taken. This matched the current exchange rate of 1 USD for 1.27 AUD. I was worry there is hidden 3% international charges.

As the gift card was discounted, thus eBay one is better than 28 Degrees. I won't worry about return - as long as I bought the right items. However those who worry about buying the wrong thing (check return policy first though as most seller do not accept international return) - or in the case of faulty item - PayPal with 28 Degrees with its refunded return program is a better choice for piece of mind.

I also learnt that the gift card cannot be used for non Australian address.
