Baby Car Capsules

I'm looking at either the Nuna Pipa Klik or the Bugaboo Turtle capsule. Does anyone know whether these are likely to be on sale at EoFY, or are those prices usually fixed?

Thanks

If I may offer an alternative view.

When I had my first born we also thought about a capsule and assessed the pros / cons.

We came to the conclusion that although the benefit of keeping them in the capsule for easy transport was enticing, it was not worth the expense for the time you use it.

We also considered the middle solution of hiring a capsule but that too was also expensive.

In the end the decision was right as our son was not a particular fan of being in the car for the first few months so manually lifting him in and out of the car seat or using the capsule made no difference.

      Same conclusion here.

Considering a capsule costs a few hundred bucks if not half a thousand and because it is limited in age (less than 6 months I believe). It also potentially limits your stroller options. Plus it depends on whether your other half would hold the big / heavy capsule. Depends on whether you want to pay the price and get the benefit of lugging a heavy shell around.

Another one here who didn't bother.. we had every intention of going down the travel system route, however when Covid hit, we decided it wasn't worth the expense to purchase or even rent a capsule for a couple of months when we weren't going out that much anyway. There was only one occasion where I thought "gee a capsule would have made this easier" when bubs was trying to nap but I had things that couldn't wait! I also had to have a C-section and wouldn't have been able to lift it for half of its useful life anyway. If we have more kids it's not something that's on our "next time around" list either.

Probably the only time I think you'd really NEED a capsule is if you have a super preemie baby and they are too small for a 0-4 year car seat. We had sub 3kg baby and he fit fine in the Britax Graphene.

Also depends on the pram you have - some don't come with a bassinet so I guess in that instance it would be a consideration (capsule saves you buying a bassinet, but it's not recommended to leave baby in a capsule for more than 2 hours a time) but it all comes down to how you are are using it and what your lifestyle is.

If you are still definitely wanting a capsule, Baby Bunting often have 15-20% off everything sales or look for eBay promos or cash backs with associated stores. We didn't find the baby shops did much of a clearance at EOFY, we got better deals by buying when new models came out and getting clearance stock of the older versions.

  • For both my babies, I went to a baby hire shop and bought their older stock that's still in date. Last year I bought a 2014 maxi cosi mico ap for $60, and they check after every return so I feel it's a bit safer than gumtree/facebook. For my first baby, I also bought a 2010 maxi cosi for $60 and sold it for the same price.

  • The others are right in that you don't have to have a capsule BC most rear facing car seats (but not all) will take a new born infant.

Generally after 3-6 months you will prefer to use the seat.

Personally I bought a near new second hand capsule, you can resell for the same price you bought it for when you finish.

For the car seat we went with nuna rava (the expensive version not the cheap au version) for the main car and a mother's choice accord ap for the spare car.

Btw having a basinet for the pram is more useful than a car capsule of you have to choose between the two options.

    • how did u go for the expensive one of nuna rava? did u purchase it from overseas?
