Suggestions for Wired Headphones with a Balanced Soundstage (Budget $200-$400)

Hi all,

I am looking to replace my AKG K7XX headphones that I bought off Massdrop many years ago as they are falling apart. I'm not an audiophile by any stretch of the imagination but I do have an objective 2 headphone amp to power whatever I decide to replace them with. To be perfectly honest I would just buy another pair of the AKG K7XX if I could find them for sale somewhere at retail price.

My preferences -
Balanced soundstage
Open ear
Not tight fitting (I wear an XXL Motorbike helmet)
$200-400 budget
Wired

This is my first post on ozbargain, please let me know if there's something I've missed!

Thank you

Edit: Thanks for the suggestions. I ended up going with the Massdrop x Sennheiser HD 6XX Headphones.

  • I can only recommend what I have which is the Beyerdynamic DT880 Pro. In your price range. Balanced, semi-open, very comfortable. Made in Germany. You can also get them in the right impedance to suit your use case.

There is a non-pro version too. Same sound quality slightly cheaper due to different band etc.

Very good natural soundstage in my opinion.

  • Sony MDR7506?

Very comfy, will last forever, easy to get replacement pads.

The cable is quite heavy, they are not suited for walking around.

  • hd 6xx

    • I just purchased a pair of these today. Apparently from reading reviews they are tight fit (although the metal parts of the headband can be ever so slightly be bent) so hopefully they'll fit well.

  • In that price range 2nd hand Sennheiser hd600 are the best option.
