Multiple Speeding Infringement on The Way (within 30 Minutes of travel)

Driving down a local road to the shops today.

On my return trip home down the same road, I noticed a speed camera, checked my speed and it was on 60.
Didn't think much of it until I realised the speed limit was 50. Silly boy, I will learn from my mistake.

I know within Victoria they could possibly change the fine to an offical warning if below 10km/hr and you have not had an infringement in the last two years (which I have not).

Now I am concerned I might have been done both ways (I think the camera was there on the way to the shops).
If I have been done both ways, could I still lodge a request for at least 1 to be changed to a warning?

I will not use the excuse in the appeal that I needed to pee.

I will not use the excuse in the appeal that I needed to pee.

Years ago, I wrote in with the excuse that I was in a hurry to do a number 2 and it surprisingly worked!

OP's user name doesn't check out.

    • First one Number 1’s, second one Number 2’s. It’s been a tough 12 months.

        I don't understand…. 👀

possiblily 2 for both ways, don't panic now and just wait until you receive fine by post
if you have a dash cam, you can check the actual speed from the footage

    • Thanks, yeah I will await.

Misses car so I will be nominating myself in that regard as the first thing. Looks like my Sunday trek to find the old Barista Bros cost me dearly.

      • Barista Bros

At least you'll be saving up cash from buying this UHT mudwater to pay your fine lol

        • Haha oh I know. If I didn't hate Barista Bros before, I sure do now!

  • Slightly tangential, but what sort of delay is there generally between the event and the fine arriving? A few weeks ago I was going to visit a sick relative and neglected to pay attention to an active school zone on a 70km/h road (Pennant Hills Rd in Sydney). Because of the large difference between the school zone and non school zone speed I'm freaking out.

In Victoria it says around 2 weeks.

You can try checking ServiceNSW? It may appear online first under the "Fines and Demerits" section if the letter is still in transit.

…….The fine will turn up on the same day (or a few days after) as you have to pay your car rego, home rates, Insurance and any other unexpected expense….

  • Dude!

    • Don't even. I am so pissed off for my actions 😑

If you nominate for one, you might get a warning for both?

    • I am sorry, I am not very smart when it comes to these things.

So let's say two turn up. I nominate both into my name then appeal both?

      • +1

You one way, missus on way back. Maybe you get off both…

        • Yeah good idea, not sure misses will enjoy that so happy to pay one and try get off one:)

I wouldn't recommend this. In SA at least, they'll check the photo if another driver is nominated, or if they receive a request to review the fine. The cameras are good enough to determine age / gender, and facial features. I've seen a few men come unstuck this way, trying to palm fines off onto their wives / girlfriends / grandfather to save points - usually end up with a court appearance on top of the fine. Source - police officer.

IMO opinion you'd be better off simply going with the truth - you thought it was a 60 zone. You might be able to get them to withdraw one of the fines if they were in the same location. Had a truckie over here activate the same camera 22 times before he realised he'd got the limit wrong on that stretch of road. They withdrew 21 of them in the end.

            @Uncle Chop Chop:

Most fixed cameras are still taken from behind. So if it's one of those, there's no way they can identify who it is.

            • @bobbified: In QLD, they require a stat dec. if it is the same where the OP is, I wouldn’t do that especially after admitting to it on the internet or if I’m planning on appealing it. Not worth the trouble since he isn’t losing his licence.

          • @Uncle Chop Chop: This - different jurisdiction, but I got done twice in quick succession (like 60 seconds apart!) by the same mobile speed camera. It took some doing, but eventually negotiated this down to one ticket.

When it comes to the law, dishonesty is not your best option…

I was just bragging to a visiting interstate police officer friend that i hadn't had a fine in years and rarely saw police in the state, when that night I returned home and found two fines in the mail. Exactly that. Had gone down a local street and back, both doing 60 in a 50 zone. I wrote back a very short letter with a flimsy excuse and they withdrew one and turned the other into a warning!!

Apparently they appreciate very short letters and dislike lengthy excuses! I think they'll delete one fine if you send them a short letter!! Good luck!

  • So… what are you telling us… that you are a perpetual danger to other drivers and pedestrians.

At least I don't act like I am sleeping 🤣

I act asleep at the wheel… no one is really checking these cameras.
